Jumping off from this. One of the inherent problems of democratic government is that politicking and governing are two different skill sets. I am good at governing, I'm not great at politicking. My elected peers most value governing in the executive, which is why they elected me board chair. 1/?
Nota bene: I have met a few people who actually love the running for office part of being elected, but in my experience they are a minority. Also, a number of them…well, let’s go with they may not be people who should be given power. Which, to be fair, can also be said of too many other electeds
