I cut people who grew up down there, especially Millennials and older, a little slack because the Lost Cause Myth permeated the very air. (Lived in ATL from '77-'00 and Knoxville '00-'08; it took work to deprogram myself.)

It falls apart with even the slightest critical examination.

But yankees?

I mean, hell, there's a joke within historical/poli sci circles that the United States has precisely "one map" when you try to map out any kind of economic, social, etc sort of analysis. The former CSA always, always, always shows up, even in places you wouldn't at first expect.

I started CHAINSAW MAN which, against all reason, demands joules of Freudianism unseen outside of Hitchcock and David Lynch. I am going to be enraged if this thing sticks the landing and I have to put it in my list of Favorite TV shows next to The Leftovers and and then EXPLAIN THIS TO PEOPLE.

Most people don't know good and bad are not the same thing. I could not get a room of undergraduates to consider that "putting babies on spikes" was anything other than a simple opinion. Nietzsche attacked traditional morality but he wanted you to rebuild it! No one did the second part!

at my limit; people can’t emotionally regulate their cognitive dissonance when exposed to the basic obvious observation that in their society all the liberal institutions with substantial power are equally or more reactionary in their politics both in substance and ideology than the catholic church.
unlike the institution of journalism, which never invented any euphemistic smears to accuse certain minorities of being superpredators and monsters and groomers. glass houses, just sayin.

Wife: It is interesting that the biggest papers and networks burned decades of hard work by others who built up their brands to bend over immediately for Donald Trump because they thought he would be a successful dictator and 10 months in he's flailing. I was watching an art house movie on Amazon -- Corsage -- and the split second the credits started Amazon was like GEOFF DO YOU WANT TO WATCH ROBOCOP, ruining the final effect. At my film showing I use blu-rays but the montage on the main menu spoils a lot! It turns out I am too prissy to live.

the idea is that moral clarity or certainty is somehow dangerous. of course, everyone who argues this is also morally certain, just about different things. this is just a way of devolving the debate into abstraction.
