Mm-hm. And it’s on Dems to fix that, because electing Republicans has proven repeatedly lethal to people — in Iraq, in countries where USAID worked — who have no way of making the U.S. system deliver more democratic outcomes.
Could Trump ever win a majority of votes in a nation where everyone knows that their vote has an equal probability of deciding the election? The system that was ostensibly designed to prevent tyranny is actually solely responsible for delivering tyranny. Parts of the constitution are very bad!

Hakeem Jeffries is the House Democratic Follower. You can't name a single policy issue in the last year he's actually led on.

When forming a position, he follows polls, public sentiment and his own caucus members. But he never, ever gets out front to persuade or lead.
Scoop: House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries opposes bill funding DHS and ICE
Democrats are lining up against the bill.

'Why aren't they in the streets' is answered almost every day in my small town by people in the streets! Rather than asking 'why aren't they in the streets' it's worth asking 'why isn't your media showing them in the streets' and 'who is served by downplaying resistane in its myriad forms.'
The idea that there are no protests in the US and no one is standing up to Trump is proving incredibly hard to kill over here in Germany. It’s become dogma, utterly detached from empirical reality.

I wonder if the people who keep talking like that understand they’re perpetuating regime propaganda.

And respectfully, RESPECTUFLLY, pretending "idiots vote against their own best interests because Eek, Brown People, and now everything sucks measurably more" is some uniquely American phenomenon is INSANE, to me.

ESPECIALLY in the UK. Brexit was SIX YEARS AGO.
Honestly, as a Brit, it's a very weird situation to be in right now. There's a certain sense of watching another country being lead by entitled lunatics trying to fuck over every other country and going "we know this is bad because... uh... reasons that may be pertinent to being British"

Trump is a convenient deus ex machina for people who support his politics but are too embarrassed to admit so, would be my simplified theory here.
This is why I always emphasize that "the media just likes Trump for clicks and ratings" is not accurate. The Jeffrey Epstein scandal is the worst in political history and instead of sensationalizing it, they repeatedly minimize it and downplay it despite massive public interest
public perception says mainstream media is sensationalist, lusts for scandal, will make anything up to sell papers and get clicks etc.,

and then this particular president does like 10 scandals a day and mainstream media insists on describing his actions in the most uninteresting way possible

Europeans losing their shit about Trump. Everybody is starting to understand how bad this is. But we're still trying to blame random people instead of agreeing to face the real problem. Unchecked white supremacy.
Over 35% of people didn't bother to vote. They were happy to see Trump win.
Of the 64% that bothered, half voted Trump. They were happy to see him win.
So pretty much 70% of Americans were happy to see Trump win. That's the vast majority.

Uncomfortable facts are no less factual.

Just like many Black Americans, I'm one-quarter "British Isles" without a single post-1865 white ancestor. Black Americans are bidialectal English and AAVE speakers. What our ancestral tongues were, we will never know.

The British Empire did that, and the United States is her rogue daughter.

Then it's cringe.

It's so exhausting to to be constantly told by American leaders that the defining policy of the 80 odd years during which the US became the most wealthy and powerful country in the history of the world was a grossly unfair failure for them.
US trade secretary Howard Lutnick really not mincing his words here at Davos: "We are here to make a v clear point: globalisation has failed the West and the USA. It's a failed policy. It's what the WEF has stood for, which is, export, offshore, find the cheapest labour in the world."

Thought-provoking piece by @lewisgoodall.com. He argues that the US under Trump is no longer from the UK perspective a
- military ally (Greenland)
- strategic ally (Russia/Ukraine)
- political ally (NSS calling for empowering far-right in Europe)
- economic ally (tariffs)
The Valueless Presidency
America is no longer Europe's ally. Stop bleating about NATO. It's already gone.

A law-and-order platform which credibly promised to punish crimes committed by members of DOGE would be widly popular, I think.
DOGE employees may have improperly accessed social security data, DOJ says
It's a stunning admission from the Trump administration, after it battled in court over DOGE's rights to access and use Social Security data .

Carney’s AI strategy pretends that you can still work with Microsoft and Palantir(!) and call it a sovereign cloud. You simply can’t.
The CFIA knows that the US gutting of their regulatory agencies means it’ll be more work for them to keep Canadians safe. They can’t do that under austerity.
Microsoft’s AI deal promises Canada digital sovereignty, but is that a pledge it can keep?
As the U.S. government becomes increasingly authoritarian and issues threats to other countries, can Canadians trust U.S. tech companies with their data?
