We live like gods. We travel immense distances in almost no time. We communicate across wide spaces. We see visions now and from the past, and have all the knowledge of mankind at our fingertips. And yet our rich are poor in compassion and our moneyless are poor in liberty.
I have a lot of very conflicted feelings about my military service in Afghanistan, but I'll tell you one thing I got out of it - it was impossible to walk through any of those villages and then return to America and think that most Americans are "extremely poor".
