Writing is thinking.

It's not some marginal boring task you can skip. It's the heart of it.
It’s easy to think writing is mainly the transcription of ideas you already have—that is, until you try to write something worthwhile, and you find what you thought were saying transform into something far more interesting in the process. This skips that last step, and that is *not* an improvement.
“We plan to hire an AI rewrite specialist to ingest the reporting by Hannah and others and use AI to convert it into stories.”

The editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer said it will use AI to ‘write’ its articles.

Searching for a streamable version of this remix brought me to a version of this song that Chris Isaak did with Céline Dion. It is, of course, fantastic and she spends some time in the very lowest part of her register, which we don't often get to hear.

These Olympic-themed AI ads are silly because I can accept that AI might help crunch the data to improve performance in some Olympic sport, but there’s like a tiny handful of people to whom that’s useful.

I mean, when you put it *that* way it does seem depressing as hell.
I miss when you could post Brave Norman Rockwell Townsperson and the caption could be, like, “R.E.M was wrong to leave ‘Fretless’ off of Out of Time” instead of “The secret police should stop murdering people.”

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

I have only seen one of the Oscar-nominated shorts, yet I already know which one I want to see win.
Did you enjoy Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility? You may enjoy one of this year's Oscar nominated short films: Jane Austen's Period Drama. (Thompson even gets a credit!)

Every now and then, the classical station plays some Aaron Copland and I irrationally blame him for this.
It really is amazing how much of political punditry, *especially* elite outfits in NYC and Washington, still embrace this bizarre idea that rural spaces represent the "Real America" while metropolitan areas, where most (presumably real) Americans actually live, should be held in contempt.
Just going to point out again that our arbitrary political rules permit Republicans to attack urban areas with impunity but strictly forbid the faintest whiff of condescension toward rural areas by Democrats

Some noble, inclusive, and democratic "real America" from the past is not coming to save us, nor are we doomed to forever live in an oppressive, racist, and exclusionary "real America" that has always existed. Both versions of "our" history are real. America's future is up to us.

It's an almost ubiquitous reaction to the show: something will go wrong. I mean, I knew from my own experience that the fear of a bad ending is ingrained but it hits different when you see so many people, gay and straight, fretting about it. #HeatedRivalry
I’ve watched a lot of people—queer people particularly—react to #HeatedRivalry and it’s poignant how many of them are worried it will have a sad ending.
