Completely aside from the other horribleness here, to say "we don't try to moderate reviews based on accuracy" is tantamount to admitting your reviews system is a completely arbitrary popularity contest that may not have any actual relation to the product. One that can make or break your game sales!
the Steam team responded to my support request and said they will not remove the review calling me a liar and ridiculing my sexual assault because of censorship concerns.

Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

This is such a misunderstanding of why writers, artists, and designers do research to begin with, which is to find something unexpected, not capture the average or find reference for the default.

With the current discourse on how Steam doesn't moderate reviews, I feel it's a good time to revive this conversation.
Earlier this year they quietly enabled the 'helpfulness system' that ends up highlighting negative reviews at the top, while hiding the positive. This has been terrible for indies.
Earlier this year they quietly enabled the 'helpfulness system' that ends up highlighting negative reviews at the top, while hiding the positive. This has been terrible for indies.
I've been trying to convince support that this is causing an unintentional side effect for indies. Since we don't get huge volumes of reviews, the 'helpful' reviews getting sorted to the left leave a pile of unsorted negativity on the right, which collect at the top and make a bad first impression.
