or it is a theme park and I could collect all the golden pinecones and still arrive "just in time" to save them.

there's no wrong choice but it does serve a very clear purpose of communicating to the player what kind of thing we're doing here

the NPC said "please hurry, theyre gonna go and kill my whole family", I took my sweet time exploring, got there and everyone was dead, and that locked myself out of that questline?

oh, so its this kind of game then, not a cardboard theme park centered around me and I should take stuff seriously

I personally like to test these kinds of things, see what the dev will allow me to do, and in turn what they'd allow the game to do to me, precisely to get the feel for their intent

I get the "but how does allowing that make the game more fun?" but I also think not all design decisions pass that test by themselves.

like you said, sometimes you allow shit because it aligns with the project's core pillars, even if's just a building block to that pillar and not good on itself

agreed but I see this in the same way as "should the player be able to jump off the tutorial cliff 30 times in a row, get bored and leave?"

if there's nothing scripted killing that NPC, like a escort quest etc, if they just decided to go on a murder spree, then agency has consequences, I guess

that looks nice.

is there something similar in the Unity shader bible?

yeah, the cognitive processes behind human intuition are a complex mix of genetics and learned behavior to be compared to statistical regurgitation

players being able to flip a review after posted is just an asinine logic

here's some, by now old, test footage of when I got really interested in archer gameplay near the beginning of July for some mysterious reason and had the urge to go finish my ranged weapons' movesets

the file is even named 'ironeye_test'
