In pulling Twins off the market, Pohlads crush hopes of a fan base that deserves better
After 10 months of hope, Twins fans find themselves stuck in the same place they've been for decades under the team's current ownership.

If we were a more serious country actually concerned about things like 🇺🇸 power, rising 🇨🇳, & <insert int'l security threat/issue ______," this would be a national crisis & a presidency-ending scandal. But since we just like to pretend we care about this stuff & glorify the military, here we are.

The Trump administration's chaotic State Department reorganization, which includes the termination of 1,350 professionals, has been predominantly inspired and executed by two twentysomethings who compensate for their lack of experience with nationalist extremism.  shero.substack.com/p/a-small-ca...

Far-right ideological policies, pursued by inexperienced Trump appointees in their twenties, are behind the mass firings of career diplomats and services that predominantly serve minorities.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting was one of the ways the government spent money so that remote parts of America aren’t left behind, and voters from there who say they’re being left behind elect politicians who work to leave them further behind, then complain that no one cares about them.
I’m old enough to remember when John Barrasso consistently opposed defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting because CPB’s most important role is financially sustaining radio and TV broadcast infrastructure in places like WYOMING where private enterprise will not connect people to the world.

I'm sure that Marco Rubio -- in addition to his roles as Secretary of State, acting National Security Adviser, acting Head of USAID, and acting U.S. Archivist -- can just cover the work of seven hundred diplomats too.
700 diplomats at State are set to be laid off. This amounts to 60% of all foreign service officer currently based in DC. 60%!

Turned on CNN three times yesterday while running errands. First time was in the middle of a segment about Biden's age. Second time they were airing a promo for Tappers book, which is about Biden's age. Third time was during a panel discussion -- about Biden's age.

Meanwhile . . .
Trump Justice Dept. considers removing key check on lawmaker prosecutions
The Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section is charged with ensuring cases against elected officials are not politically motivated. The Trump administration is considering changing that.

The number of deaths from the illegal defunding of USAID will be (roughly) calculable, and that number should stick to Musk forever.

But harder to count—but prob vaster in number—will be the preventable deaths and harms resulting from willfully gutting science in the name of racism.
what a time to be defunding science
Great article. Gift link.

The president has covered the Oval Office in gold, is planning a massive military parade for his birthday, and is now accepting $400,000,000 luxury planes from foreign powers as personal presents.

What the fuck are we doing here?

It’s almost as if USAID was a pillar of American soft power and influence in the world

It’s almost as if it was entirely predictable that America’s adversaries would work to fill the void left by USAID’s destruction

When are liberals going to learn that you don't fight fascists by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

You should never start a sentence with "______ is not wrong."
RFK Jr. is not wrong. We are failing to keep our communities healthy. This message resonates with many.

But I have serious concerns about his ability and expertise to lead such a sweeping overhaul of the HHS workforce. We need accountability, not just rhetoric.
