Now, new reporting shows that Republican negotiators want to make a trans funding ban a requirement for the extension.

The proposal, which was first detailed in the Wall Street Journal, could harm transgender people even in blue states if it becomes part of the negotiated deal.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Unsurprising, but:
New: cops used Flock AI-enabled cameras to monitor No Kings protests around the country. Also monitored No Hands protests and protests against DOGE.

"Should serve as a warning of how it may be used in the future to suppress dissent."

Just in case you thought this was about trans athletes. This was solely about creating a fascist and racist gender bureaucracy over what constitutes being feminine enough to be considered a woman.

They're targeting cis women who may be intersex and banning them from sport.

Literally the authoritarian playbook:
1. Call your opponents terrorists.
2. Deploy state power against them.

There's nothing subtle or confusing or complex about what's happening. The *outcome* is uncertain but the authoritarianism is right out in the open.

The way I view this is, we know inherently that the law will not save us but that doesn't mean you still can't use it to slow them down. Make them work for it. Do not give them power they do not have. Make them fight for every inch of power.
I know it's frustrating when lawyers point out when something the administration is doing is not legal. But responding with "the law doesn't matter anymore" is really unhelpful and defeatist. Clarifying the law is important because it reminds us not to comply in advance and to resist and take action

The primary antidote to despair that I've found is getting engaged in local organizing and volunteering.

Find a group doing work you care about in your area - homeless advocacy and outreach, immigrant support, queer rights - and volunteer with them.

It's a tremendous counter to helpless despair.
What do you suggest though? It's all very well saying "Don't let them win" but it's not like people have a little switch in their brains they can just flip from Despair to Hope.

if you want to understand tailoring, you only need to watch mid-century movies, when actors were dressed by tailors, not brands. in the 1944 film cover girl, gene kelly's suit drapes beautifully, moving with him, not against him. collar stays on his neck, even as he dances.
