you will have to pry the millennial “lol” from my cold dead hands. i don’t know how else to express minor despair. if i didn’t say “lol” after admitting i’m a husk inside, i’d have to develop emotional resilience, and i simply don’t have time for that

this visual presentation really drives home that their movement is all about the inversion of all values for the sake of contrariness and spite, rather than the creation of a stable order that can stand stably on its own merits
I will not be following this new food pyramid because I would like to live. I like not having high cholesterol. I like not having gout.

Emily Oster should have been run out of town on a rail for getting kids infected 6 years ago and the fact that she’s now agreeing with RFK “I like dead kids” Jr surprises me not even a little bit 😠
1) Emily Oster is an economist, not a dietitian.

2) In a country where the #1 cause of death is heart disease, and where >10% of adults have high LDL cholesterol, putting sources high in saturated fats at the top of your pyramid--and not including a single bean/legume as a protein--is bad advice.

it is frankly a *scathing* indictment of the White House press corps
I’ve been thinking and it’s kind of exceptional that not a single person said “Hey now” after the piggy comment.

Oh, so now it's fine to have a war on Christmas
Fox guest on how to save money during the holidays:

"Remember, adults don't need gifts. Focus on the people in your life who are aged 3 to 18. Grandma doesn't need slippers. If they don't live by you, don't get them a gift."

My ask of any science enthusiasts who tell the story of Rosalind Franklin:
Don't make her life be about the DNA debacle. She died far too young, but she was a promising scientist in her own right, a mentor and scientific author.

Not for Watson or Crick, but for her legacy.

if you're feeling hesitant about voting in your local elections today, just remember that dick cheney and his political heirs statistically do not want you to vote at all.

I don't live in NYC but I get NYC mayoral ads, and I just want to point out that the contact person for "For Our City" (an anti-Mamdani PAC) lives in New Jersey:

imo whenever any member of that team is on national television, this should get brought up at each at bat, OR what they've done to earn redemption, if anything (unlikely, but if someone has tried to make amends, we shouldn't throw them back in their garbage cans. which they probably still have.)
Some extra salty thoughts about The Assassination of the Seattle Mariners By the Coward George Springer. Springer of course hit the game winning home run last night for Toronto, denying the Mariners their first ever trip to the World Series 🧵

all these people protesting today in groups of a few dozen on the main streets of small towns in deep red Trump country - where they will absolutely take shit from their neighbors about it at church tomorrow or at work on Monday or next time they go to the grocery store - are braver than the Marines

One of the reasons I feel so hopeless is that everyone invents a GOP that doesn't do the unpopular stuff that it is doing and a Dem party that does do unpopular stuff that it isn't, and I just don't know a way out
I actually agree that Democrats should refrain from using most of these. And they already do! When was the last time a Senator said 'heteronormative'?

The bigger problem is that orgs like Third Way are reinforcing this false, right-wing narrative. Dems can't stop doing something they're not doing!
Scoop: Third Way is circulating a memo, shared first with @playbookdc, featuring a new blacklist of words Dems shouldn’t use.

Dear John Boyne,

“Fix your hearts or die,” is an order with two options. You can pick either! Lot of people miss that you don’t actually HAVE to choose the second one.

Just occurred to me that John Boyne's logic - that if you make the majority uncomfortable your rights should give way - would map perfectly on to him withdrawing from the Polari prize.

A majority of authors have objected, time to go.
Polari prize update: John Boyne has now made a statement. I'm putting it below.
