I work in tech, in a large ML org. The hype isn't true.
There are use cases where it works really well. There are more use cases where it works okay, but needs a lot of human hand-holding (think dozens to hundreds of humans). For many highly marketed use cases, it doesn't work at all.

I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

Republicans can't do anything about the AG directing the DOJ to do an embarrassingly obvious cover-up of a massive pedophile ring that includes the President and several people in his admin/orbit, but they apparently have time to make it illegal for regular folks to vote without 17 forms of ID.
