If you remember that the point of every Trump foreign policy idea is to generate social media content rather than actually accomplish anything tangible then it all makes a lot more sense.
What is just crazy about this, aside from the need for this statement at all, is that Greenland already IS in the US sphere of influence. It's far cheaper for the US, in material, security, and reputational terms, to have Denmark continue administering Greenland and work within NATO on security.

Still thinking about this skeet and also about the not-insignificant number of times I had to make a judgment call as to whether a snuff film seemed legitimate enough to contact law enforcement about. Ten years before AI videos were a thing, even.
Also, doing entirely human content moderation where each post must be seen by human eyes and carefully evaluated for context and permissibility on social media is the single most horrific and traumatizing job I think it’s possible to do that doesn’t require committing crimes against humanity.

Yeah until you have worked a content moderation job where you had to determine if a painting of a woman being gang-banged by millipedes was outside of site policy based on how far the millipede appeared to be penetrating/what exactly constitutes “lube”, you really haven’t experienced the internet.
