he's "well respected" because obama picked him
CNN calling Tom Homan "well respected" and "not as hardline as Bovino" is an interesting choice. The dude took a $50,000 bribe in a fucking Cava bag and says all the same fascist shit as Bovino and Noem.

it is probably because they are responding to their earlier errors by taking positive action now, which helps defend their neighbors, rather than by retroactive reputation management in the Atlantic, which does not

statistically speaking (and based off the articles) it is a near certainty that thousands of people currently patrolling the streets in Minnesota are people who did not immediately believe the warnings of the left 10 years ago. I see very little criticism of *them* on here
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

this is a fake problem. no one is saying this to regular, offline people who are coming around. they’re saying it to people who are engaged in professional political analysis who committed professional malpractice by scolding people who saw what was coming.

no, those people shouldn’t get a break.

and the goldfish memory about everything. like fine, maybe because of time (and propaganda) you forgot about how this is what snowden blew the whistle about. but for the last YEAR there were constant "didn't bring your phone to an abortion/protest/etc because all your apps track you" warnings!!!!
Its wild how the TikTok algorithm changes reveal to Western people how heavy Western censorship and propaganda really is. Access to continuous Israeli war crimes in Palestine, "law enforcement" abuses, global Western imperialism - all gone or deprioritized by the billionaire oligarchs. And this:
BREAKING: Now that TikTok is under US-based ownership, the social media app potentially collects more detailed information about its users, including precise location data.

nyt published an oped from tom cotton about why we need to send in the military to kill the blm protestors but will not publish an article from GoatTseTung69 about why we need to kill the landlords
Radical centrists are usually left arguing with college students and the people who annoy them on twitter because their project has involved excluding the left from actual publications that pay writers

"WHAT ARE WE? A BUNCH OF *WHITE* PEOPLE??"
This was just me making this comparison yesterday, but today the Korean news is calling Minnesota "America's Gwangju" and have human rights lawyers explaining how America is now living through the dictatorship Korea once had.
The Chun regime that my wife fought against in the 80s did the exact same thing. They needed a "crisis" that "only they could solve" to hoard more ill-gotten power, so they chose one city (Gwangju), declared its inhabitants enemies, sent trucks full of soldiers to violently attack and kill them.

there was a very short time period when flatbed scanners had good resolution but digital cameras were not very good yet, where people smashed their dicks and boobs in the scanner to get a pic of them. like 2002 or so. i didn't do it but other people did, mostly old people. i hate this memory

since adams had tammany hall level corruption going on, the switch to "check out the enormous amount of resources that the city will now use to help you" is a good message!!!!!!
One of the hardest things to do is bring campaign-level communications to the work of governance, and snowstorms are notoriously one of the biggest litmus tests that less-engaged voters use to judge mayoral administrations. This is an excellent way to communicate.

the guardian article is fascinating in how it technically explains it while also COMPLETELY missing the point heh
I don't really blame the Guardian for reporting this but it's very Current Year that the Know Your Meme page about this does a better job of explaining what the meme actually is.
