Why is it always described as fear rather than addressing the very clear, spelled out criticisms of "AI"? And always followed by how chumpXYZ is soooo powerful without specifics. When they start talking specifics, they are actually describing expert systems and automation not LLMs.
I understand the fear people have with AI. I had that same fear until I began using ChatGPT. I'm sorry this is upsetting a lot of people, but this technology is truly revolutionary. Its potential applications put it up there with the printing press

Is it okay to highlight an entire book?! Finished “The AI Con” and it is so informative with research and articles to address and push back at tech companies and workspaces forcing “AI” into every field and aspect of our lives. Personally appreciated the sections on social work and healthcare.

This is so sad. As a CS, I learned how to learn and how to creatively solve problems by doing the work myself. No other way around it. Analyzing our friends' and teachers' code and other references was helpful to an extent but only by doing and failing and fixing and doing again is how we learned./1

Can’t stop thinking about Alice Wong today. I couldn’t do any of what I’ve done and hope to do with disability justice in libraries without the foundation she laid, and I suspect that’s true of a lot of people in a lot of different disciplines.
I hope she knew what an impact she made.
