ultimately we need to be able to imagine a government that serves the people in order to collectively act with the strength required to demand change and the longer we let things like this pass, the less equipped our society will be to imagine a future where things are different.

NEW: A mass propaganda event is about to engulf the US news cycle and what, if anything, survives it will be a lesson for our times.

But it’s what the rest of the world does now that’s key. When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

I recently rewatched a few episodes of Star Trek DS9 and noticed how main characters use sort-of-AI. Basically they give voice commands, that *always* start with "Computer". No chit-chatting, no flirtatious voice, no names, no treating it like a living being.
As it should be.

I wish you a better year, full of resilience, hope and community. To those struggling - I wish you'll have more days at ease and people will show you kindness. Lots of good health, human connection, happy moments and a shoulder to cry on when the need will arise.
All best

10 hours left of year 2025 here, so it’s the time for the annual redraw.

the last 12 months were full of stress, struggle and disappointment, so the bar is quite low for next year to be great! I feel it in my bones.

Thank you for all the support and love, I hope you have a lovely new year!

Why are the manga titles so long now? Long and descriptive.
would Naruto be now called "I'm an orphan and all my village hates me but I'll show them and become Hokage!!!"

Reading a history book without footnotes and endnotes feels like being in a room with a guy who repeats "trust me bro, it happened!". Gimme that source, I want to know more!

Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...

I absolutely love the works of Lucy Knisley and I honestly believe that such tender, wise, humble stories are changing the world for the better (one step at a time.) Showing the goodness in people is so so important, especially now. and the art is beautiful:)
Great for a present!
Happy mishmash!
Happy mishmash, everybody! An excerpt from Sugar Shack, available at your local bookshop, library, and wherever books are sold! (1/3)

This article struck a nerve in me. Implication that it is a language that *makes* us human is invalid, ableist, wrong and dangerous and yet used here without a second thought.
Take the language from the LLM, what will be left? Do it the same with human. We can think without the language.
How many times must we keep saying this?

Correlation does not imply cognition

Labour strikes aren’t new!

The first recorded strike in history took place in Egypt some 3,200 years ago!

The ‘Strike Papyrus’ records that tomb workers of King Ramesses III downed tools over pay and conditions circa 1157 BC!

I think the biggest problem of TGA is that they don't feel like a celebration of this craft at all. Even at Oscars every category gets its moment and people are allowed to talk and thank. costume designers, special effects etc. it's about their work. and TGA? Oh you won best family game BYE
I think these awards felt especially boring because categories like Best RPG and Best Indie each honor overall quality among a subset rather than a specific craft. If a game is the best of the year, and it’s an RPG, obviously it is also the best RPG. Needs an overhaul to avoid pointless repetition

I will always support such cool ideas for games! Inkulinati (the other game made by Yaza) was great. I love how this project is full of passion and glad to see manuscript aesthetics and humor.
