We had another fresh snowfall early this morning. When I went to bed at 2:30am those big, fluffy flakes were softly falling, illuminated by the streetlights.
There are so many awful things in the world right now. I’m thankful for snow and how it transforms everything. It’s so sparkly & bright today.

Scraping snow off of the end of the driveway and a neighbour pauses on their walk past.
Neighbour: “Oh, I was hoping to see some of your sidewalk chalk art on my walk!”
*looks around at the snow covering EVERYTHING after our first big snow of the year*
Me: “Uhhh..heh…maybe after things dry out?!”

If you are in Seattle, please go patronize this store because this is amazing content/promo 😂 (laughing to keep from crying, and I do kind of low-key want that orange spider plant I have never seen that before)

Saw a lot of headlines saying "wikipedia is embracing ai" being tossed around tabloids, and I'm pretty sure they were maliciously written to make you feel a certain way about Wikipedia. What's actually happening is that wikipedia is demanding payment for data scraping and the corpos don't like that.
Sure. AI companies have ALWAYS been training their models on Wikipedia content, which under the free and open access model is available to anyone — including AI companies. Agreements like these require AI companies to limit and offset the strain they place on Wikimedia infrastructure.

While the pasty incels who work the federal agencies continue to churn out feeble, bloodless AI pastiches of Axis propaganda, here’s how a living breathing artist powerfully invokes design history. This is by illustrator Emily K in South Philly, a free poster-sized download on her website: →

Poké Ball Battlers, anyone? (I bought a small bag of toys at the local thrift shop for a vintage TMNT figure and these were inside.)

Quite. Everyone panicking about the Wikipedia “AI deal”: this is just making the AI bros pay for what they’ve been stealing until now (and presumably hammering the Wikipedia servers in the process).
With “Wikimedia Enterprise”, AI companies have to use (and pay for) dedicated APIs to scrape data, which helps to limit the strain on Wikimedia servers. (See eg arstechnica.com/information-...) This is a good thing for Wikimedia and for its readers.
AI bots strain Wikimedia as bandwidth surges 50%
Automated AI bots seeking training data threaten Wikipedia project stability, foundation says.

We’re getting snow, today! You can’t even see the pond at the moment. (Just looking through my photos to see what the garden looks like when it’s awake, for comparison.)

Comic-Con should be a celebration of illustrators, comic artists, writers and so on. Elevating the actual craftsmen and women who make the works that fans love!

Instead it opens the door to slop that can only exist due to the stolen work of those same creatives, to then displace creatives. Gross!

re: SDCC allowing GenAI into their art show. SDCC costs creators *thousands* of dollars to attend and they think this is ok?

Readers, attendees, and creators alike need to let them know there’s no place for GenAI in the arts, period.
