I got rejected from a job I wasn't even sure I wanted and the disappointed was surprisingly piercing. I guess I let myself hope for something without realizing it. That's okay.

Trying to remind myself that what I really want is to be working on my next book anyway.

One of my favorite drawings from last year is the new Patreon print for January/February!

Updating the Big List and starting a new one with slightly more refined goals every year is my favorite part of new years.

Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

there are some ppl who really disregard the opinions of non-creatives (which in some cases, i agree), but if it's something like readability of an image u really gotta listen to them lol. if even a child cannot distinguish your figure from the background u really gotta go back to the drawing board

Something from the sketchbook.

Feeling very grateful for the opportunity to travel for so many shows this year but the state of my savings, my road weariness, and lack of time to actually make art suggests I should cool it with the travel next year.

I know that I am supposed to be cool and aloof or whatever, but it really means a lot to me anytime someone writes to me to say they liked my book or includes it in some kind of end of year list. It is surreal and I'm so grateful anyone would read my work much less take the time to write to me.

Good news for people who are cool and sexy and like defying AI by directly supporting crusty goblins with ink on their hands!

Good news if we're friends and you've been wanting to support my work but haven't yet!

I'm updating my patreon and you can lock in your legacy patronage before new years.

How long should one have to ask their landlord to fix the heat before they stop paying rent?
December 3, 2025 at 8:11 PM
Things I love: Drawing my little pictures, reading books, watching my partner play Winter Burrow.

Things I don't love: after weeks of asking my landlord not fixing our heat as we are heading into proper winter. Soon we will be living Winter Burrow except we don't have a cute fireplace.

I've made about $17k all year, INCLUDING my adjunct teaching job.

There is this idea that anyone working in the arts has wealthy family help, and sure some do, but a lot of us are simply poor. If you enjoy someone's work please pay them for it. It is not greedy to want to be paid for your labor.
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!
