You might be a xillenial if you still write all four digits for the year even when there's no possible way anyone could get confused about something being in the 20th century or not.

What a colossal achievement — another astonishing book by @tranquilitypress.bsky.social of course, but also a showcase of just how massive and talented this community really is.

2026 is going to rock.
Today we’re launching Jayce’s Fighting Ships of Wolf 359
A project that began as an idea and became something much bigger: a community-run act of creativity.

The book is now public. It’s yours.

I highly recommend anyone who misses the Batman animated series check out "Batman: Caped Crusader." It is definitely a different take on it but it is HEAVILY inspired by it, in the best ways particularly the visuals.
It's not my favorite version of Batman as he is a bit more of a dick to Alfred than

I've seen variations of this point made and I'm not planning on arguing with anyone; obviously there were extant things that inspired BTAS. What I MEANT was - I was 9 years old when it came out I didn't know or give a flying flip about Art Deco. But this was wildly different than Ninja Turtles.
Not to nitpick but art deco aesthetics were a thing in the early to mid 90s thanks to Batman 89, Miller’s Crossing and the retro comic book movie/retro noir waves.
Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

No focus group or market-chasing research was going to say “We should do a sandbox stealth action game like GTA or Hitman 2 where you play as a goose.”

This show was the result of artists being passionate about art deco aesthetics, upping the standards for scripting and voice acting, and sharing their clown fetish with the world

I called this “The Orville Peck Principle.“

I did not get on the Internet one day explicitly looking for a masked queer cowboy to start crooning at me, but guess what? It was exactly what I fucking needed.

my favorite tas trivia is that for the first season the animation studio wouldn't budget for new paint, they were using the same pallet as tiny toons. the distinctive look came from doing backgrounds on black construction paper using the playful tones of a loony toons show.

Also...the real-world story of BTAS has a kind of spinoff sequel, so to speak.

Darwyn Cooke was struggling to break in to the comics art world, and BTAS inspired him in such a way that he refused to go along with the current trends, and fought succeed on his terms.

I showed my big Batman TAS fan friend the Dick Tracy movie, and they are SUPER convinced that the artists on this show were inspired by that movie specifically.

Batman TAS fans should definitely check that movie out.

(I know original Batman was inspired by original Dick Tracy, but check the movie)
