In my 30s, I was an active bicyclist and roller blading, and was also big into crosscountry skiing during the winters. This winter I've been trying to get back into skiing. It's hard beginning from (near-)zero as a 59-year old, but I am enjoying it and will keep at it.

Violets are blue.

Fun (?) fact: If you are in the U.S., Canada, or parts of Mexico that follow the U.S. schedule, daylight savings time begins in 23 days. 🌞

> Give your love a book or something.

I love this suggestion. Looking for the perfect gift?:
1. Go to a used bookstore.
2. Buy a book that you think is meaningful to both of you.
3. Write a short personal note in the inside cover.
Most of the roses for sale in the US are raised in hideous labor and environmental conditions in Colombia and Ecuador before they're loaded onto 747s to fly here. I know because I visited one of the rose plantations/sweatshops for my book Orwell's Roses. Give your love a book or something.

The Code of Hammurabi: Thou shalt not use VLOOKUP().
The spreadsheet on this clay tablet, which is almost 4,000 years old, is organised into columns for furrowed area, grain produced, land not sown, and the field’s name.

The first field is called “Of the soldiers who stood in for their fathers”.

It’s ancient Excel, but I find that incredibly moving

I asked my refrigerator "if you are being held hostage, let my cheese slices fall down behind the vegetable drawer." You would not believe what happened.

The choices we face in life: To eat a Mox Opal or to convert it to $250 of grocery money. Regardless, this looks like a great deal: It's $25 below the current TCGplayer market price and $57 below the cheapest NM copy from TCGplayer Direct.
Shiny. Like heat and foods (yes I could ignite it or eat it as well)

Never Played. $250. Paypal/Venmo/Cashapp. DM or post here. Have a stack of things to send this morning. RT appreciated.

The year is 2399. Commodore Oh, Head of Starfleet Security, surprising reveals the transfer of 300 GB of data. This is a little bit like Star Trek's own Dr. Evil naming a ransom of "one million dollars."

Swedish language PSA: The mixed doubles curling gold medal winners are named "Wranå", not "Wranaa" as is used in the official Olympic games broadcasts and results. "Å" is an actual letter in the Swedish alphabet, just like "ä" and "ö". Its pronunciation is similar to the "o" in "gold."

Most days I am proud to be Swedish. However, this is a dark, hateful, and racist piece of legislation forced through by the conservative government to appease the Sweden Democrats, the xenophobic right-wing party that grew out of the Swedish neo-Nazi movement.

Sweden to raise hurdles to gaining citizenship
Starting in June, Sweden will require that people have lived in the country for 8 years, earn a modest income and pass a test to gain citizenship. Successive governments have tightened migration rules...

I get very little junk mail at work, except these guys slink through (they end up in my Junk folder, but I have to manually delete them). For some reason, "Selterm cable lugs" makes me think of self-sealing stem bolts. 🖖

For large campaigns like this, there can be a misconception that small donations don't matter. Nothing could be further from the truth: The overwhelming majority of contributions are small amounts. Currently, the average is $32, which means the median donation is even lower. Even $4 helps.
We need to hit $420,000 before prof wakes up so I can send him an obnoxious text.
