Tough day for Cryptic STO team. We're losing two of our most senior artists, including Hector Ortiz, who codified the look of STO's unique 25th-century Starfleet aesthetic. The other is Senior FX Artist Chris Menard, who has been on the project with me for the last 15 years. We'll miss them dearly.

One of the few games I've GM'd was the 4E Module KEEP ON THE SHADOWFELL for friends over a long weekend. These guys were primarily video gamers, so I created illustrated and pre-filled stickers for them to put into their journal. They loved it. It was perfect for people new to D&D.

Once we were engaged, we had one more piece of business at Savi's. Now that we both had our own lightsaber, I wanted us to pick out and build a lightsaber together, one which would have a white blade to represent the silver Arconis Crystal. We hope to display this along with our two personal sabers.

With all seven fragments collected, Fulcrum told us to return to Savi's Workshop. The gatherers there would know how to merge the seven fragments back into the Arconis Crystal. We met @kylepoddig.bsky.social under the Batuuan Wishing Tree once more...

From there we had a priority code to go to the Rise of the Resistance! The Empire already had the Red Arconis Fragment, and the only way to get it was to let them capture us! Thankfully we escaped withe the Red Fragment, a concentration of the power that binds two people passionate for each other.

Then we headed back to Batuu to find the blue fragment among the Coaxium during Smuggler's Run. "It’s said to represent the power of unity, or teamwork. A distillation of how much more potent two people can be when they are of the same mind. The whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts."

The Green Fragment was in the picnic basket at Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railroad. "This fragment is powered by chaos. Challenges in our lives can tear people apart, but can also bring us together. Like the song said, nothing can stop two people who stick by each other no matter what happens."

From Indy, the Orange Fragment was waiting for us at Star Tours. The clue for this one was fun to put together, riffing on the "luggage scan" that happens during the Star Tours line. The Orange Fragment represented the power of shared stories and memories (like our fandom) to bring people together.

After Columbia, we found the Purple Fragment at Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye! "The purple fragment represents the power of choice. Choices shape our destiny, after all. In us is the ability to choose what we value, and most importantly, we choose the people we keep close to us."

As expected, Catrina was a pro at deciphering the clues. I had a lot of fun not just writing Fulcrum's script (which @vengeancegod.bsky.social expertly riffed on!) but also creating additional clues in the form of images for each ride. This poem pointed us towards the Sailing Ship Columbia.

After I built my saber at Savi's we "found" the first Arconis fragment. "This one is said to be a locus for the power of chance, or luck. ... Chance can be a powerful force for good or evil, and can even drive the destinies of two strangers towards one another."

Once Fulcrum gave Catrina her mission, we were off to the park. After a quick romantic dance in the Sherman Brothers exhibit, our first stop to kick things off was at Savi's workshop. This was partly because I wanted to finally make my own saber, but also a bit of recon for the proposal.

The packet included the QR code, a "code phrase of the day" card, Fulcrum's contact info (Mike's anonymous phone number) and some Fulcrum pins to make it easy for Disney CMs to identify/remember us. Etsy really was my third secret weapon!!

All together the fragments in their stabilizer cores and the ring box itself worked together to build a progression and contribute to the immersive Star Wars story that was so important for the day! And yeah, with all that prep done, how did the day actually go??

After spray painting it silver, I weathered it to feel more grungy and "Star Wars-y" and then as a finishing touch I printed on the symbol of Neptune, a nod to @ohcatrina.bsky.social's favorite Sailor Scout! This was another way to tie both the Star Wars and Sailor Moon elements together.

Each colored fragment had its own theme related to our past and future together. Fulcrum messaged that theme to Catrina after she found each one, but using the cannisters I could reinforce the theme even more by labeling them. I made little labels in English and Aurebesh for the sake of immersion.
