I'll get the first, Doylist reason out of the way quick - because star trek is a way to talk about our society and its future, and medicine is only as good as the plot says it is.

Geordi had a visor for the same reason. Picard, an artificial heart.

Finding out that top execs from both LifeTouch and Chuck E. Cheese are in the Epstein files has pissed me off in a way that I didn’t think was still possible.

the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style

Pop Quiz:

You've got Elon's money. What's the first thing you buy that makes you happy?

For me it's, "pay every single campaign on GoFundMe." There's only been $30bil raised by GFM its entire existence, I could drop $30bil like it was *nothing*, do immeasurable good, and be instantly beloved.
Elon COULD be happy

He'd need to learn an art, make amends to his children, give to the poor, make friends, love a movie, play a video game, literally do anything but be Elon Musk - the one thing he cannot do

That money could buy anyone happiness except for him

I wish the movement to return to old web1.0 style sites was bigger. Forums, RSS feeds, web rings. It exists but it isn't big enough, I wonder if the people who even remember how much they had it figured out are just too few

Like it's not even nostalgia, shit was more communal and worked better then

The public library is an essential component of a 21st-century left political project as an example of both what is already available to us and what can be improved upon in the future. The library is a public good, and it is free as a public service.

I want more people to make the connections.

I remind my congregants of this often.

No matter how old/young you are, it's a gift to your loved ones to have these in place.

Especially these days.
A grim but practical suggestion: if you’re going out to protest, you should have logistical plans for what your loved ones should do if you get critically injured or die

Advanced directives, wills, etc.

This would be a devastating/traumatic time to leave them with a million difficult decisions ❤️‍🩹

New data since last post but thinking is the same. In short:
1) I see potential for at least 6" of snow in central VA from Saturday afternoon into Sunday.
2) I see the potential for some to get double-digit totals.
3) Highs: teens/20s, lows: singles/teens mean slippery, dangerous travel expected.
