Conflicted on this one. While Jaime is right, especially in the US healthcare context, I have personal experience of dementia patients stating, while still lucid, that they want to go before they get to the point of not recognizing their loved ones, but be denied the option
Theoretically, everyone deserves the right to do what they want to their own bodies.
But in practice, these laws lead to further devaluation of disabled lives. They invariably lead to people choosing MAID because they can't afford healthcare, cajoled into this cheaper choice by an uncaring system.

One parenting tip from me: assume your kids will do stuff behind your back, remind them that they have a stack of get out of jail free cards at home: if they get into a bad situation you want them to call you. Make sure they know they won’t get into trouble if they ask for help.

Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Trans people have literally always been here; every time I see someone sneering "oh but there were no trans people when I was in high school," well. I dated a trans girl in high school, and was close friends with a trans guy.

oh, yeah, I actually do genuinely believe in ghosts in New Orleans, but as we all know New Orleans exists on a slightly different plane of reality from everywhere else so that’s perfectly logical
I don't believe in ghosts but when I was in New Orleans a while back we stayed at a bed and breakfast and every time I went outside to smoke late at night the radio would turn itself on to static and that was pretty creepy

I have been blessed, in my $TOOMANY years on the Internet, to only once have come across something horrible. It still haunts me two decades later. Nothing but respect, gratitude, and hugs for those who sacrifice their peace of mind to make the web a more pleasant place for the rest of us!
Oh Jesus Christ no you do not want an election or jury duty system for T&S, EVER. Every site that's ever tried it has it crash and burn in a horrible fireball of drama, AND you have absolutely no concept of the kind of deeply traumatizing content moderators are exposed to every five minutes.
