Norwegian government: we need to profit off of genocide because otherwise we might miss out on this bubble popping. Would suck if we cashed out at the peak of the hype cycle.

Update: this is no longer included in the final funding deal. I'm going to keep fighting to lower premiums and ensure Republicans can’t get away with a backdoor national abortion ban.
Senate update: Republicans are now trying to sneak a backdoor national abortion ban into their government funding bill. Republicans will stop at nothing to control women's health care decisions.

I genuinely think that trans people need to fight a bigger fight about research ethics governing our treatment. "Trans rights are human rights" is vague.

No research without consent is specific.
It's right that trans people should be able to refuse to be subjects in research being conducted with an aim of reducing their options in life, reducing their comfort and wellbeing.

So the Oslo University Hospital group that got caught doing illegal research on trans minors actually applied for an exemption to privacy regulations and got denied... THREE TIMES!

Then went ahead and tried to be sneaky about it anyway!

Would just like to point out that Anna Waehre, the researcher here mentioned as guilty of grievous research ethics violations targeting trans minors was a panelist in a SEGM conference last year with a large number of other abuse apologists.

The US spend by far the most on healthcare, and they get very little for it. Regardless how rich you are.

Call me cynical, but the only explanation I have for the spineless Democratic Party leadership is that they are corrupt.

They are serving their real masters.

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

I am now offended that not a single British person has shared a picture of their gnome with me.
The best is Kate Fox’s book ‘Watching the English’. I think she introduces the gnome theory - lower class: ‘look at my garden gnome’. Upper class: ‘I have amassed a world leading collection of gnomes, let me tell you about them’. Middle class: ‘I have a gnome, ironically, isn’t it funny’

Today I was wrong on the internet and I’m still ok. It’s fine to be wrong, great actually, because then you learn something new.
Turns out it’s 2 liters of Coke for 1 kWh. Good thing other people have actual expertise.
100 ml of coke has 10g of sugar, so 100 g total in a liter (!) and sugar has 1600 kilojoules (!) of energy per 100g
so 3.2e6 J in 2L of coke.
meanwhile a kilowhatth is 1e3*1*3600 = 3.6e6 joule, so near enough!

Him: I need to measure how much energy it consumes.
Me: You could measure it in Big Macs 🍔 or maybe in Coca Cola 🥤
Him:
Me: 1 Wh seems to be 2 liters of Coca Cola 🥤
Him:
Me: You should tell people at work my fun fact 😇
Him: You should put that on LinkedIn
Me: I don’t think they’d appreciate it

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

By the way, that last part is what I said when Opera laid off all the people who could actually build a browser.
Norwegian Deloitte is laying off people saying they don’t need that many people given AI

Why would anyone give Deloitte money for analysis if they’re just going to ask ChatGPT?

This feels like cutting down your apple orchard for firewood

Getting $290,000 for some crap ChatGPT spit out is a great gig if you can get it. Unfortunately, it might be your last and then maybe you sold yourself too cheap?
