It’s a mirror of the national discourse about how progressives have gone too far, Harris was too woke etc. A corrective to liberal excesses that never happened.

Seattle has had a series of mayors who got elected promising to “finally” use police to crack down on homelessness — the existing policy that every previous mayor has deployed.

Once they get into office they don’t deliver because it doesn’t work. We waste four years and the problem gets worse.
The story about the gun got buried, virtually nobody in any position of influence talked about it. The more significant element of this was money. The business class within Seattle really liked his harsh-crackdowns-on-unhoused-people policy, and they put a lot of resources behind his campaign.

Katie Wilson wins Seattle mayoral race, incumbent Bruce Harrell appears to be preparing to concede

The exciting race for Mayor of Seattle can now be called. With almost no ballots left to count, challenger Katie Wilson has an advantage that incumbent Bruce Harrell cannot overcome.

We know from the snippets given in the novellas that Murderbot's beloved Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon is not a reference to the 2003 tokusatsu Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. But, hear me out, what if it was?

As all this disgusting Epstein shit starts surfacing more and more, I hope we don't lose sight of the fact that apparently every major media outlet knew everything and instead spent their time money and energy attacking the trans community.

Switching from a 30-year to a 50-year mortgage would slightly lower my monthly payment, but massively increase the interest owed over the life of the loan.

But, hear me out, switching from a 30-year mortgage to a 500-year mortgage …

Yep.
people bitch about woke media but if TOS was on today they would go to a thinly-veiled MAGA planet where the locals worshipped guns and then kirk would hit the orange dictator with a two-fisted karate chop before giving a lecture about how science is real and violence is bad

Was not sure how I felt about more new characters being introduced this far into the Craft Wars series, but Arthurian Jeeves & Wooster and nepo baby Elle Woods are winning me over.

And Abelard continues to be the best boy, even if he might be on fire sometimes.

On the one hand, this is *very* funny to me and I understand how they made that error. On the other, as someone who works in localization, a translator hired to work on a shonen manga really should have known this term.
I will stand by, this remains the funniest mistranslation in manga localization history

better paid developers who have work/life balance and no incentive or directive to engage in predatory tactics.

kinder fan bases that acknowledge developer mistakes without resorting to threats of violence.

I need Joyce Carol Oates to be mean to me online so I can get my life together

every time this gets brought up the argument is then WELL THEN WE'D HAVE TO PAY EVERYONE WHO WORKS ON THE GAME ROYALTIES SO IT'S JUST NOT DOABLE

but what if we did pay everyone royalties. :) what if people got compensated for their work :)

Voice actors never get paid royalties on video games. It's one of the biggest scars on the industry as a whole.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.
