I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.

Humans are indeed biased, but the studies I've linked show AI causes humans to become more bias and retain that bias even when they've stopped using the AI tool. Not to mention the studies showing the negative effects on critical thinking and cognition.
Humans are biased. If anyone's telling you otherwise, they are telling you fibs.

Meanwhile, re yr studies: the earlier versions were much worse than current; some are trying to provoke mistakes & then get them.

I have little prob (but check) getting good refs from gpt5.

Altman has been quite clear about his strategy.

From the 2008 crash he learned that if you bind enough of the economy to your business you can do whatever you like; government will decide the rules no longer apply.

What he's selling is unaccountabilty.
I honestly don’t get the value of this company. They hoover up energy and water. Their product constantly gets things wrong and, in extreme cases, coaches people into suicide.

And it’s all built on what seems to be malicious and vast intellectual property theft.

What does OpenAI offer the world?
“authors & publishers who filed a lawsuit against the Sam Altman-led firm have secured access to internal Slack messages… discussing the mass deletion of a pirated books dataset… A NY district court ordered OpenAI to hand over the communications regarding data deletion”

There’s a young southern woman on tt doing an experiment: calling churches & asking if they can help her get baby formula, saying she can’t afford it. Of the 30+ she’s called, nearly every church has said no. The ones who said yes were:

Black Baptist Churches
A Mosque
A small Appalachian church

Dental health should be included in healthcare - human and animal. It is strongly correlated with higher quality of life for the elderly and longevity of life overall.

It's absolutely heinous that insurance companies don't cover it and that it often isn't part of socialized healthcare.
Oral hygiene has been linked to multiple health conditions, including dementia and diabetes. Now, research shows that people with both gum disease and more tooth cavities also have a notably higher risk of stroke.

Rejecting the premise here. "AI" is not coming for your job. Companies are dumping people because they are putting more money into AI investment, not because there is labor replacement via productivity.

Even in the Amazon announcement, Jassy backed away from the framing that AI took those 14k jobs.
Much like dictatorship or climate change, the threat of AI taking your job is no longer hypothetical. It's here, as shown by last week's bloodbath at UPS, Amazon, etc.

Should the government be sending us $1,000 a month? Is there any alternative to UBI? My new column www.inquirer.com/columnists/a...
