Seems like I should post more indie dev content since I'm leaning off into the void

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

100% agree. When process is followed to the letter with no flexibility or adjustment to the team dynamics then it becomes more of a burden than a benefit.
The mission is to mold the procedures around the team and project.
A good producer is absolutely an incredible force multiplier and allows the folks who are creating the actual artifacts to be more effective.

A producer beholden to methodology or who does not understand the needs of the game they're working, however, can do irreparable damage very easily.
I reposted this, and then saw some discourse in the replies, so here's my take: big games absolutely need managers and producers. In fact, as I've grown older, more of my time is spent on being a manager and producer. But I think the underlying sentiment here is: trust the people in the trenches.

Actually love this idea if it can be implemented well into demos
Launched the I.T. Never Ends demo with "Democratic Pricing."

Risky move: every feedback form auto-publishes to Discord.

People are actually doing it. Avg price vote is settling around $12.

Everyone underestimates adding juice to your buttons
if i have any game design advice it's that your title screen should not just be a jpeg. things have to move and react. in fact just make the menu before the rest of the game. in fact don't even bother making the game just make the menu

Give yourself something to look forward to next year. Something less substantial than a resolution which can carry regret if you can't stick to it. Think of a book you want to read, a genre of music you'd like to learn more about, a curiosity to chase no matter how trivial. Keep your spark lit.

In gamedev, if you're using a placeholder asset, best practices involve marking it as placeholder so garishly and offensively clearly PLACEHOLDER that you can't possibly miss it. Also flagging that asset in the dev process so it can be identified quickly before the final build.

This post's really funny but I think if we're being real the awesome part of gamedev is that it didn't kill my fun, it just made everything more extreme. Bad design is like nails on a chalkboard while great smart design is BLISS

I want to see indie developers explore the concepts of limited movement more, similar to Classic Castlevania; how you had no control over the direction of your jumps mid air, and the slight delay in your attacks. where every movement you make matters. that last point is really what I want to see

This is HUGE NEWS for games made in Unity!

If you're a Unity dev you can now add native screen reader support for mobile and PC/Mac using the native OS screen readers! So Windows Narrator and macOS VoiceOver will be able to be used in PC/Mac games!!!!

This will be HUGE for blind players!!!
Unity is expanding support for native screen readers, making it easier for developers to implement screen reader support for blind accessibility on more platforms.

After Android and iOS, starting with Unity 6.3 it supports Windows and MacOS as well.

Back from #animenyc, had a great time meeting some indie devs and snagged some gorgeous art. I couldn't help but feel like there's not enough to do outside of purchasing.

There were less than 6 panels per day and barely any shows. A surprising lack of anime to watch at Anime NYC.
