Hey, if you’re in the game industry and have a literature degree, would you please comment?

We got a family friend over here who insists my having a career in games while holding a literature degree is a one-off aberration and per usual, I’m not letting it go.

Again and again, I have to ask the tech bros, "Did we read the same stories though?"
Why is it that tech and AI boosters keep saying "you can't put the genie back in the bottle" when making arguments about AI's supposed inevitable dominance? Did they not read the story? The genie does, indeed, go back in the bottle. Maybe we should start there.

Uncertainty can be terrifying. What conservatism (and relatedly evangelicalism) provides is a feeling of certainty and security, and some people will do literally anything to avoid giving that up.

A great peek into how genAI is impacting gamedev concept art. (Spoiler: It's mostly bad.)
We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

I mean, you don't have to convince me, I do what an LLM is supposed to do, but much better, much cheaper and fueled almost entirely on snacks and Coke Zero. But then I want pesky things like human rights and a salary, so
You are right, but LLMs as technology are a BAD THING. Pure brute force crunching numbers to run a statistical token predictor. With datacenters consuming more power than medium sized cities. If their operating cost would be passed to the users they would be (as sold today) unsustainable

I've edited AI slop many, many times. It takes just as long—if not longer—than editing something that a human wrote. AI creates fewer obvious errors, but the errors it does create are stupider and more difficult to identify.
