To Liz's point:
It's worth saying that Star Trek is specifically anti eugenics. The anti fascism of the writers comes from the explicitly anti eugenics stance of the universe.

Earth was unified in the ashes of the "Eugenics War". It's in the DNA of the shows.
Including disabled people in our utopian futures pushes back against a eugenicist ideal.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

Jujube has gone out to bark at a squirrel for the 3rd time in under an hour. Really hoping she tires herself out, cause we have a pretty boring day today otherwise 😂

Why are vaccines in the US always presented as “a personal choice”, instead of a communal responsibility?

You get vaccinated not only to protect yourself, but more importantly as part of raising the difficulty for infectious diseases to multiply through the community. That makes everyone safer.

I want to claim a religious exemption from paying taxes. I bet republicans would balk at that.

The idea that someone could be excused from a vaccine "because god says so" blows my mind. What next? "Yes, your honor, I did kill the child by ripping his heart out of his chest; but you see, I'm a believer in the old Mayan religion, and my gods require human sacrifice"?

My most authoritarian opinion is that the MMR vaccine should be mandatory, with only medical (not religious or floofy) exemptions allowed. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

“Captain Mumbles” is a hell of a thing to call Holly Hunter, whose distinctive speech pattern is due to mumps taking her hearing on one side. The disrespect from someone who cares more about “decorum” than decency.

Generally, as an adult, it’s actually your own responsibility to take your blanket with you. The main exception would be if you have someone who is explicitly employed to move your stuff for you. That would not be the person whose job is to fly the damn plane.

Waiting for the squirrel to figure out it can make Jujube run away simply by dropping something in her general vicinity. No need to actually chase her.
February 13, 2026 at 6:39 PM
Maybe the squirrel will tire Juju out.

Now that Jujube is safely on my lap, far from the scary leaf, she can return to growling at the squirrel. Not loud enough for the squirrel to hear, mind.

Suburban wine moms will really be like "you believe in voting? that pales in effectiveness to my strategy, firebombing a concentration camp" and then very effectively firebomb a concentration camp

Went to the window to check on Jujube just in time to see her trotting across the yard with her tail down because a leaf fell kind of near her.

The History Channel loves to be like “did Hitler store 10 billion dollars Nazi gold in this Pennsylvania house?” and answer that question as demonstrably “no of course not” and then make 18 seasons of “Pennsylvania Hitler House”

Disabled people would like you to be as understanding as you are about glasses about the variety of aids we use, and stop calling the evidence of having a body something “wrong”.

Every person and their body and relationship between the two is different. Just…stop.
