May 22, 2023 ALL THAT WANTING, RIGHT? Devin Kelly I wanted a poem to come out of my sadness, but no poem came. I wanted a revolution to come out of my burnout, but no revolution came. I wanted a bird to fly through my open window, but my window was closed. I wanted sun on an evening when it was already dark. I wanted just a bit of grief rather than despair. &, in my shame, I wanted my childhood back. I wanted to walk backward out of the room where I kept my secrets. I wanted to say I'm hurt before my hurt became a character trait I told no one but myself. When I wanted unknowing, I was given certainty, & when I wanted the hard & fixed line, I was given mystery. Sometimes, I wanted to give it all back, but to who, I wondered, & how? I wanted a life to come out of my life, but instead I was left with my life. All that wanting, I think now, & still I woke this morning to light & the memory of the time a bird did fly through the open window of my apartment, &, scared & senseless, shat all over the couch before leaving. All that wanting, right? Sometimes it happens & sometimes it doesn't & sometimes it happens worse. Make do, little friend I call myself. Walk backward out of the room you have made out of your wanting into the room of where you are. The poem is here. The revolution, too. & love, still, even in the evening, when light still shines.

Shared this on insta & will share here too. If you’re not in the ME or Long Covid communities you’re likely unaware of just how often we have to watch young people die.
Most of the people whose names I share here with 💙🕯️ were in their 20s, 30s, & 40s. (Samuel was 21. He developed severe ME from Covid.) They should be living vibrant lives. They WOULD be living vibrant lives if not for the systemic, worldwide denial a defunding of ME & Long Covid. ME has one of the lowest qualities of life of any disease-the "mild" end of the disease takes away 50% of your function; the very severe end is pure agony, a living death—a yet ME receives next to no biomedical research funding. ME has been recognized by the WHO as a neuroimmune disease since the 70s, & yet there isn't a single approved treatment. If you want help, you have to be rich enough to try a bunch of things out of pocket & you have to be lucky enough to happen upon something that helps. Even doctors, neurologists, & Google VPs can't find help for their severely ill, bedbound kids. It affects far more people than MS, more than most of the autoimmune diseases you're probably well aware of, & yet, most doctors don't know the most basic facts about it & if you follow their advice you'll almost certainly get worse. Many of the people approved for euthanasia around the world have severe ME. They are considered obviously ill & suffering severely enough to die... & yet not ill or suffering enough to deserve research funding, palliative care, safe housing, caregivers, enough money to live on with dignity. Schrödinger's disease. Sick & suffering enough for the state to kill you, but if you ask for help to live you're suddenly not sick at all & should get your ass out of bed & back to work. We can also just call it eugenics. RIP Samuel. RIP Jennifer. You deserved so much better.

The infective range of droplets expelled from the nose or mouth depends primarily upon the time interval spent in the atmosphere. The unresisted falling time from mouth to ground can be readily shown by Newton's Law to be less than a second. Air resistance becomes a negligible factor in determining the time of fall of droplets larger than a tenth millimeter through the height of a man. As droplets decrease in diameter the volume and weight, or gravitational pull, decrease more rapidly than the surface area which determines the resistance to fall through air. Particles smaller than a tenth millimeter diameter soon reach a velocity which remains constant. This fact is expressed by Stokes' Law % which says that the velocity is proportional to the surface area of the droplet or to the square of its diameter. droplets would reach the ground in less than ten seconds (table 1). Whether droplets falling two meters obey Stokes' law or Newton's law, therefore, the time they spend in the air would be small, and their radius of spread would be limited to a few feet. I also want to say I’m very excited about this as a model. This bill is about establishing the framework and the funding would come separately, but the proposal is for $20 million a year. There are 50 states—if we could pass this, then replicate it in other places, quickly that adds up to major $$!
