Disabled people are part of the future.
We must and should imagine and dream of futures where disabled people don't just exist but are everywhere, as we should be.
This need to fix/cure all disability is a eugenicist dreaming, and we should want better for ourselves.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

well i for one couldn’t be more excited for the possibilities of AI. finally a technology that answers the age old question ‘what if clippy was wormtongue’

That’s because they’ve fired everyone and AI can’t interpret art.
Between the NYT’s ‘green grass’ and this, the cultural critcism chops of major papers seems to have fallen off a cliff

Analysis: Weeks before he set foot on the stage, Bad Bunny’s halftime performance had already become a media event.

But if you were looking for political commentary, the closest that you got was when he said “God bless America” in English.

OTTAWA - Following the passing of screen and comedy legend Catherine O'Hara, nationwide reports indicate that the only thing Canadians could use to cheer them up from their grief is Catherine O'Hara.

Fascists don’t comprehend the simple mundane courageous altruism of ordinary everyday people, because in order for them to believe the things fascism requires they believe, that kind of altruism cannot exist. If it appears, it’s only a cynical lie

Hahahaha, incredible.
These fucking Alberta separatist clowns and their stupid AI-generated lies can’t even figure out which way to walk into a building.

Alt S2 opening storyline for Blackbeard that just occurred to me:

Upset about Stede having left him, trying to reinvent himself while having a broken heart, he gets drunk one night, grabs a knife, and gives himself bangs.

Everyone must compliment his new look because they’re terrified of him.

I’ve received this. So predatory.
heard several authors getting these ... tailored interactions, probably AI generated, about a "book club" wanting to 'feature' a book. beware.

Incredible article which points out that it often collectively costs more to apply for scarce research funding than the funds awarded to the successful proposals.

What an absurd system we've built in the service of efficiency and competition.

I’ve talked myself into making pupusas for New Year’s Eve. I haven’t done it in like 10 years, and never without the supervision of my Salvadorian best friend. Eeeee, wish me luck! Advance prep almost complete — beans on the stove.

People who aspire to be academics: I wish to live a life of the mind

Actual academics:
I have a weird question for the #bird people on here. Do you think someone could tell that a book was pooped on specifically by a sparrowhawk (or perhaps hawks generally) just from the feces? I'm looking at a 16th c. case where witnesses claim books were pooped on specifically by sparrowhawks!

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential
