Hey so remember when I said white women are endangering their own freedom when they cozy up to white supremacy? And that the hard right fantasies do not include sharing power with women? Yeah so the not so quiet part is here
Fuentes, yesterday: “Our #1 political enemy is women because women constrain everything, every conversation, every man, everything. They have to be imprisoned. They are the ones that are hurting the fertility rate. They're the ones making us sympathetic to poor people, which are also brown people.”
Nick Fuentes: “The number one political enemy in America is women. … They have to be imprisoned.”

I have a buddy who does picks up marketing work and writes promotional copy. He quoted $2k for a bunch of writing, but the company had AI do it instead.

Three weeks later he negotiated $2.5k to edit the AI's work. Starting from a bad place is more work than just doing it.
I have straight-up told two clients at this point that I charge more to edit an AI draft than to just write the whole thing myself, and they are positively confounded by this, but in both cases they ended up just paying me the usual rate to write the whole thing myself.

They're building concentration camps with my tax money Chuck. They're torturing children. They're murdering innocent people on the street. What are you doing.
Our DHS reform demands are exceedingly reasonable.

We're asking ICE to do nothing more than follow the standards that the vast majority of law enforcement agencies already follow.

Republicans, the ball is in your court. The clock is ticking.

This is starting to get like universal basic income where every single objective study shows the same result but the people who don't like that result go "uh, well there's just really no way to know"

This is a framing error, NYT. It's different technologies. Chatbots are not the same as the machine learning involved in reading scans (better defined inputs, clearer evaluation of outputs). Calling both AI is like conflating bombs dropped from planes with cars, because they both involve explosions.

Knowing which problems are common or uncommon itself requires significant domain knowledge
i feel compelled to remind everyone that chatgpt/LLMs are functionally the *opposite* of an actual expert.

the more your problems are unusual or novel, the more likely LLMS are to be wrong. they are least helpful when it's most important

There is no way to fix the core problem, which is that the statistical production of symbols by definition is not based on their meaning
Would be interesting to compare the results on more recent models - but this problem won’t go away. LLMs are always going to be extrapolating from what has already, and often, been thought, which is why they aren’t windows to the future but anchors to the past.
Neat demonstration of how artificial so-called intelligence is taking us backwards.

"ChatGPT produced content most consistent with the 1960s and DALL-E 3 in the late 1980s and early '90s."

re: the washington post

i think they imagine it will be easy to make it do what they want. and then it isn't, and they keep chopping away at the parts they don't like, and before long there's nothing left

and they still prefer that.
to add a little nuance: i think their goal, like musk with twitter, is not to destroy it but to *control* it.

they want to be able to stop stories they don't like, and push ones they do.

destroying it is just the end result
I know that everyone is like “oh the whole point of this is to destroy CBS, they actually want to run it into the ground” and I’m sure plenty of folks will be happy if they do

but David Ellison and Bari Weiss don’t want that! they really think they’ve got something! they are just very bad at this

I don’t know stuff like this?
NEW: Letitia James, the New York attorney general, announced that her office will deploy "legal observers" to document ICE activity in NY.

Her office says the effort is the first of its kind by an AG.

As you hear more and more and more names from the latest Epstein files drop, take a moment to think back to the Me Too movement and the people who though that having any consequences at all was a step too far. did you believe the women who spoke up? how do you feel about Me Too now?

👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻They were cruising around my neighborhood this AM, “escorted“ by a cyclist and several honking cars. I did a donation drop-off at one of the centers this afternoon and believe me, no one there who needed food and diapers thinks there’s a ”draw down“ or positive change of any kind. 😡
Predicting that this week we’ll hear more conciliatory words from the Administration regarding Minnesota (since they’re starting to realize that ICE has become politically toxic) but everyone outside of Minnesota needs to know that nothing on the ground has changed.

Abolish ICE.

There’s no reforming it.

There’s no compromise.

There’s only one way to rein in ICE’s terror campaign. Abolish it.

It bears repeating, at a moment when we are all too aware of the powerlessness of young people, that the mission of public libraries to treat *everyone* as a patron, regardless of age—to grant children civic standing through the library card—exemplifies *real* democracy. 📚

No one told me this until Wednesday, so I'm telling everyone. Remember how you powered through finals week or whatever and then promptly got sick? A similar thing may happen when you try to take a break after prolonged exposure to disturbing material, e.g. the US news.
Recharge. Stay hydrated. Eat a healthy snack. Breathe. Embrace moments of joy wherever you can find them.

Prolonged stress can have long term health consequences. Self care is not selfish - it’s empowering.

Again, I know it’s persnickety, but I want to emphasize that Alex Pretti was not “showing up at a protest,” he was driving around the city as part of a community-led first responder network. He was likely carrying a gun the same reason anyone does: he felt like he might encounter an unsafe situation
The party that has spent unlimited resources and energy getting states to pass laws to allow citizens to openly carry loaded weapons anywhere - now believes that exercising this right is permission for law enforcement to murder you.

Honestly, how dumb do they think we are?
