Hmm

Work in HE learning & teaching, particularly student engagement & learning analytics.

Also, love the Peak District and TTRPGs.

Mostly here for the jokes. Apologies if discussion about pedagogy is interrupted with DND jokes and vice versa.

Isn't this what happened with the Millenium Bug? Lots of computer scientists did lots of work to make sure the world's computers didn't shut down on 1 January 2000 and then... the world's computers didn't shut down on 1 January 2000, which everyone took as proof there had been nothing to worry about
It's one of the most annoying patterns in social discourse: "People warn about a serious problem, cynics claim it's hysterical to be concerned, people who are concerned do things that help prevent the problem, cynics claim they were right and there was never a reason to be concerned."

Trump on NATO:

"The problem with NATO is that we'll be there for them 100% but I'm not sure that they'd be there for us, if we gave them the call".

We did get the call on 9/11. 26 NATO members sent troops to defend the US. Hundreds died doing so. It was the only time Article 5 has been activated.

always a lot of panic about right wing young men, the second most progressive demographic in britain
The Greens do better among women than men in all age groups, including a 14pt gender gap among 18-24 year olds (44% of women vs 30% of men)

While Reform UK lead by 17pts among over 65 men, they trail the Conservatives by 6pts among older women

This is brilliantly fun and also a great insight into a certain archetype of person who gets inexplicably far in today's (well, yesterday's) Tory Party.
Nine years ago a Twitter user was sending poetry to Sadiq Khan about London’s many cultural identities. A decade on, Reform UK’s mayoral candidate doesn’t dispute it was her old account - so what’s changed?

F*ck me. What bit of fawning to a multiple bankrupt, criminal, sex offending, fraudulent, weird, senile, thin-skinned, petulant, bribing, adulterous, congenitally lying, deceitful, monstrous, idiotic, decrepit f*ckwit (have I missed anything?) really does it you Mr Stanley?
Abhorrent prick(s).
These so-called "patriotic" 🇬🇧newspapers who brought you Brexit were never really patriotic at all.

They are driven by a disdain for Britain's European neighbours, and a fawning obsession with America.

They do not really want 🇬🇧 to be sovereign. They're content being a 🇺🇸vassal.

Farage has pulled out of Kuenssberg interview.

Well you would, if your boss was threatening to invade Greenland.
Week by week - Laura Kuenssberg is interviewing the party leaders.

When I agreed to come on the show, I was told Nigel Farage was also doing it.

He's now pulled out - and they've sent the deputy instead.

The same Nigel Farage who's refusing to debate me.

A pattern emerging...

Farage is apparently 'under the weather' today and unable to talk about the US threats to the UK and Europe over Greenland.

Which is unfortunate.

I vote we threaten to build a Biden-Obama museum on Trump's golf course in Scotland.
What Europe could do is threaten to boycott the World Cup. It won't. But that might actually work. Trump wants his big show.
