Washing-up done, dishwasher on, my kitchen no longer looks like the barricade scene from Les Misérables and I am once again remembering why I don’t do the kind of cooking I did today very often.
On the hob on my cooker, pans washed and dried and ready to be put away - a stainless steel saucepan with a colander, a stainless steel stockpot with a lid, and large and small sauté pans with lids. On the counter in my kitchen, pots that have been washed and dried, ready to put away - a pyrex casserole dish with a lid, a stainless steel mixing bowl, and the drawer from my air fryer. The draining rack in my kitchen, piled high with utensils, two casserole dishes, a saucepan, a sieve, the rack from the drawer from my air fryer, a carving platter, two baking trays, and two non-stick tray liners. A small countertop dishwasher, absolutely full - you can see through the window in the door - at the start of a 69-minute wash programme.

I am unfeasibly excited by these carrots.

(They were braised slowly with apple juice and thyme.)
On my Christmas dinner plate, four pieces of carrot. They have a slight glaze, and there are flecks of thyme on them. In a sauté pan, peeled carrots, with some liquid - apple juice - in the bottom of the pan, and dried thyme sprinkled over them.

Dinner, done.
On a white square plate, my Christmas dinner. Clockwise from bottom centre: Roast turkey with stuffing and bacon, sugar snap peas, green beans, red cabbage cooked with cranberries, braised carrots, roast parsnips, two bite-size pigs in blankets, a chipolata, roasted cauliflower florets, roast potato. Gravy - not a lot of it - on everything. On a carving platter, the turkey. It doesn't look much like a turkey, though - it's been deboned, stuffed, rolled ,and wrapped in bacon, so it's basically a big log of bacon-wrapped meat.
