How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

a note on the Minnesota primary: this is correct, the person to replace Tina Smith with is Peggy Flanagan
Replace Smith with Peggy Flanagan. Do not replace her with Angie Craig.
that's right, Smith is retiring, I forgot

that sucks! she's good! replace her with someone who is also good!

Hi Minnesotan Bluesky:

The DFL has a well-known transphobia problem. I'm organizing to change the party platform in 2026 to be explicitly supportive of trans people in Minnesota. This will provide a basis for expelling transphobia from our party.

Trying to figure out what #SCOTUS just did with #SNAP, and why Justice Jackson temporarily froze the district court's ruling?

Via "One First," me on what's going on—and why I think Jackson's move was savvy, notwithstanding the awful circumstances that forced it:

For the sake of completeness, I've extended my dollars per vote chart to include the top two candidates in each ward. Bob Carney is your true great value champion at zero dollars per vote.

This is money RAISED in 2025 per vote received, as of the pre-general filing deadline.

If you’re afraid of another Frey victory and mad tonight, make plans to get into DFL positions next year during caucuses. This whole ass system is rotten.

RESULT: Soren Stevenson is elected to the Minneapolis City Council in the Eighth Ward.

Today is the day, if you weren't able to early vote!

My humble suggestion:
1. DeWayne Davis
2. Jazz Hampton
3. Omar Fateh

Pick your preferred order, just *please* don't rank Frey!
And really, Davis first 🙏.
Just early voted!

I’m asking everyone to vote for a new Mayor by Tuesday and rank all 3 of Omar Fateh, Dewayne Davis, and Jazz Hampton in whichever order you prefer. I’ve worked at City Hall for the last 4 years and from my personal experiences I believe the City desperately needs a new mayor.

there is no hierarchy of citizenship.

there are only citizens. All citizens are imbued with the same legal protections and rights in the U.S.

Some citizens born, some citizens are naturalized, both are fully and equally citizens.

the end.

Since the last election, a secret network of 24 McDonald’s owners has spent over $100,000 to back Jacob Frey and his allies.

5 of them are out-of-state and only 2 of them live in Minneapolis!

All with deep pockets, willing to spend big to tip the scales of this election.
