I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

It’s not particularly sophisticated but I kind of think that the most straightforward way to understand trumpism is that we have a morally depraved group of fascists who have successfully persuaded a significant chunk of the public to accept their psychological projections as reality

Oops, correction, sorry — Denning was not personally responsible for the false convictions of the Birmingham Six in the first place. He made the relevant "argument from incredulity" example while throwing out their 1980 civil suit to overturn their 1975 convictions.

I think it is worth revisiting "it's not fascism" defenses like this one from 2024.

I would say the anti-fascist coalition *does* contain a broad range of visions/ideologies/goals/values. Not all the differences are just tactics. But unity in resistance to fascism is the most important goal now, no matter what secondary differences we may have

One thing I found deeply moving about resistance in the Twin Cities was the universalism of loving your neighbor, the philosophy driving the opposition to the ICE/BP invasion. I couldn't help but notice the contrast with the blood and soil-ism of Miller and Vance. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced the Democrats have to push their hand immediately. The parallels with the delays and subsequent failures after January 6th are blaring warning signs about what will happen if they don’t go after the issues with ICE and CBP at the root RIGHT NOW.
