there is a kind of insane hyperreality of RTS storytelling that deeply appeals to me wherein minor personal slights or disagreements leads, inevitably, to building a small base, raising an army, and throwing said army at their foes
the Golden Age of RTS is replete with soap opera drama and melodramatic casts (Starcraft's Kerrigan and Mengsk et al, Kane in C&C, Fleet Command and Mothership and the Bentusi in Homeworld, WARCRAFT 3) and the more people try to recapture the golden age of starcraft without that, the worse it fails

EV Nova was a 2002 release??? Apparently????? Bonkers. Cool game, though!! Managed to muscle my way through a couple of storylines even as a kid - I remember the Pirate storyline being really fun.

An easy way to explain luddites:

So much of learning how to play ttrpgs better for me has been predicated on these specific questions, and as a GM, I'm looking to get answers for these questions from my players. Intentionality, and having a group that's actively working together towards a goal, is the *most* important step.
Things to ask yourself when playing in a new TTRPG group:
- What do I want out of the experience?
- What am I bringing to the experience for the group?
- What compels your character to be involved in the story and the group?
The experience will be 10x better with answers to these questions.
