for every macroscopic event you observe, somewhere on the order of 10^999 bajillion universes are spun up; universes that branch at a similar rate, each one full of suffering beings. the only ethical thing to do is to as quickly and thoroughly as possible diminish your capacity to observe events

Eyes on the hunger strikers, please. I know there’s a lot going on. But this is happening in the UK right now.
United Nations experts have called on Britain to protect the lives and rights of detained pro-Palestine activists who are on hunger strike.

Sitting outside a pub on Hull Marina, and Mike Reed (ex Radio 1 DJ, not Frank Butcher from EastEnders) stood near us obviously looking to be recognised. He was wearing very short shorts. We looked him up and down and just said "evening". He looked crushed.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

This whole thread kind of sums up where we are now.
25 years ago there was a problem in programming that programmers would quickly bang out a prototype, a mock version of the thing written in a language that lets you bang out prototypes quickly.

And their managers would be like "excellent, we'll ship it"

Programmer: but this is basically pseudocode

Huge rain here today but that doesn’t stop these 2.

Stormzy was told he had to be put to sleep 2 months ago with his brain damage and Big Red was shot 5 times.

Would you just look at them now. That’s the joy of being alive❤️

My Mum shared this AI slop with me yesterday. She thought it was a lovely depiction of Hull. I told her it was AI slop, and pointed out how I could tell (the white box van merging into the back of a truck at 00:40 e.g.). She hadn't noticed. The company is called INIT Creative. 🙄

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

Both parties actively endorsed Andrew Cuomo and he STILL couldn't beat a vocally pro-Palestine, pro-trans, socialist, Muslim immigrant. The vindication I feel IS a part of that obvs coz I'm a petty little cunt. But I mostly feel intense joy and relief that another way has been shown to be possible.

Says everything about the British monarchy that they only strip Andrew of his titles and admit Virginia Guiffre was telling the truth when the poor woman is dead. Britain's most rotten institution, always was, always will be.

I've been thinking (worrying) for a while that we were returning to a pre-literate oral society. That's a problem when you live in a complex world full of bad actors using AI to gaslight the population. I work in HE (UK) and this "professor's" view terrifies me!
