The editors of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) were apparently fired today.

The precursor to MMWR began in 1878 to address emerging public health threats rapidly.

We are not “great” without it. We are vulnerable to threats from sporadic foodborne illness to bioterrorism.

Taken just a few minutes ago outside the ICE facility in Portland that Trump claims is under siege. My message to Donald Trump is this: we don’t need you here. Stay the hell out of our city.

We know that transit is a lot safer than driving no matter how you slice it, and cities built to encourage transit trips see far less people dying on their streets. Making transit faster and more reliable has to be a part of the work to get Portland to zero traffic deaths.
A lot has changed in the six years since the Rose Lane Project first launched, but the political will for faster, more frequent buses remains.

Yes, do this.

"You cannot arrest someone because they are Hispanic" is worth fighting for. It's worth shutting down the government for. And it's worth attracting attention to.
A provision banning racial profiling of Hispanics by ICE in reaction to yesterday's SCotUs action should immediately be added as a non-negotiable position for any kind of CR.

*Force* the GOP to *demand* racial profiling of Hispanics and make them threaten to shut down the government over it

Bike math is paying virtually nothing and getting a lot in return.

Car math is selling your soul to waste your life in traffic and inhale kilograms of particulate matter.

Oregon dems let republicans sneak a sunset amendment to transit funding in exchange for 0 votes.

I’m going to lose my mind
The bill passed out of the committee without a single Republican vote.

Oregon's Democratic-majority legislature, in the middle of a special session to raise emergency transportation funding, just added a transit funding sunset, creating another likely fiscal cliff just a few years down the road.
The amendment to sunset the payroll tax increase passed with significant bipartisan support. I believe Sen. Khanh Pham was the only person on the committee to vote no. It’s unclear if its inclusion will actually result in Republican support for the overall bill.

Everyone in #orleg leadership should be replaced for this cluster fuck of a debacle when they have a supermajority.
Oregon Dems are signaling they will back off on some of their funding ambitions as they negotiate with Republicans.

Gov. Tina Kotek proposed doubling a 0.1% payroll tax for transit. Now Speaker Julie Fahey has an amendment that would sunset the increase after 2 yrs. #orleg

Last couple days in Seattle. Got to see the city from a few angles (Gas works park and the ferry) as well as checking out a bunch in the city and see the Amazon Sphere.

Day 3 in Seattle and first day at Pax West was awesome. Pokémon Legends Z/A was better than I expected, the expedition 33 panel was a blast, met @andycortez.cool, Borderlands 4 was awesome (gravity nukes are so cool), got some good food, and now I’m ready for a day of indie games tomorrow

One thing I’m loving about the brt in seattle is that they seem fine with being ahead of schedule.

They have good enough frequency they don’t need to sit at a bus stop for 3 minutes because traffic was better than expected

If PPB & the Mayor want to get more eyes on the street at the I405 underpasses, they should work with ODOT to transfer the land to PPR and build a skate park/pump track/pickleball and tennis courts and shit, maybe even a food cart pod. We have the SDCs, and rent from the pod could go to maintenance.

The Pearl District shouldn't get to avoid having a homeless shelter because many of it's residents have the time to go push back against it.

We need shelters all throughout the city. Rich neighborhoods are no exception.
