Like many have said, the gassing outside ICE today was really bad, and it impacted a huge group of people. I heard multiple people say they felt like they were going to throw up as they tried to leave the area. (I experienced similar effects.) It followed a peaceful protest led by labor groups.

Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

Huge crowd at Elizabeth Caruthers Park for a labor against ICE protest in Portland. Many different local labor groups represented, speakers saying fighting against authoritarianism and ICE is an important issue for labor to take on.

Portland's public transit agency is in a dire financial place, and it's unclear when—or if—help will arrive.

In the meantime, TriMet is going to have to make major bus and MAX service cuts. Riders still have a limited time to weigh in on the changes through a survey.
TriMet’s Present Crisis, and Uncertain Future
TriMet is facing a $300 million budget gap, and it’s unclear when—or if—the public transit agency can expect any new funding to help fill the void. As a result, the agency is planning to make some maj...

I want to know what songs people sing at an anti-bike lane rally
The world may be burning down around us, but thankfully San Mateo homeowners are laser focused on the real issue of our time: getting the city to rip out bike lanes in favor of more parking

Earlier this month, a journalist recorded a PPB officer repeatedly punching a protester who was already restrained. The following day, a protester recorded a PPB officer defending the ICE shooting of Renée Good. Through record requests, we ID'd the officers, who it turns out, might be related. (1/3)

I recently discovered that an AI company, Glean, is using my name for its chatbot. This is the bot’s name for everyone it interacts with, it was not customized to me. Why a chatbot needs a first and last name, I don’t know. That it had to be MY name was immensely troubling.

He could have used his time to disavow the comments in the group chats. He could have called or had his staff call to get more insight before giving comment, as was suggested in the Mercury's initial email to his office. Instead he took a page out of the Trump playbook and just attacked our reporter

This will be unnecessary because Councilor Jamie Dunphy is now president, winning with an overwhelming majority. Councilors Loretta Smith and Dan Ryan were the only ones to truly vote against him, Councilor Steve Novick voted for Elana Pirtle-Guiney as a gesture of thanks.
I had a dream about the Portland City Council president election. The winner was someone random who isn’t even a member of the Council. (I’m pretty sure it was some variation of Amy Klobuchar, possibly mixed with my aunt.) Something to consider.
