this is what I was trying to get at with my ranting yesterday - say whatever you want about like, the dsa international committee, but putting them on a level with policy makers in an actual presidency is completely insane. they just don't matter that much, and these guys do.
It would be good for the health of everyone if there was a bit more introspection on the part of the kinds of people who have actually achieved state power and then either squandered it or actively worsened the world in some respects with it.

this too is ultraliberalism bsky.app/profile/neus...
big chunk of online left-of-center types took "intent doesn't matter" re: racism etc & allowed it to metastasize into "actual ability to wield power doesn't matter, ergo the average dipshit tankie and Guy Breaking The Leahy Law To Facilitate Genocide are not just morally but practically equivalent"

Proof that tone can eclipse policy: several people on Bluesky have insisted to me that Starmer is to the right of Thatcher
If Starmer changes tack or is replaced by someone to his β€œleft”, the main shift will be tonal because the government has just been quite left wing. It put up taxes, spent more on public services and gave unions a load more powers
A good example of how strangely unpolitical this government is at times.
The Economist is fretting that trade union laws have been tilted (sharply!) back towards strengthening unions.
But is the government making an argument around this to progressive voters? No.

Trump: "So I put on a 30% tariff, which is very low. I got an emergency call from I believe the prime minister of Switzerland. She was very aggressive ... I didn't really like the way she talked to us, so instead of giving her a reduction, I raised it to 39%."

Glenn Beck thinks Bad Bunny is an anti-Trump psy op because no one ever talked about the [checks notes] guy who was Spotify’s most streamed artist in 2020, 2021, and 2022, who was named Billboard’s pop artist of the year in 2022. www.billboard.com/music/pop/ba...

In Cleveland, Indivisible held a joint event with PSL.

Online is not real life.
look i get there are annoying leftists who post anti-social drivel

but continuing to feud with them endlessly is doing little to help the Left (broadly construed) in our fight against fascism

in real life, libs and leftists are banding together to fight fascism. online shit is a distraction.

As someone who more or less agrees with a lot of left-liberal criticism of actually existing socialist foreign policy thinking in the US, I still find it silly that people on here like to pretend that Brett McGurk or Anthony Blinken have less influence than glup shitto who canvasses for PSL

God bless the lawyers who curl (or the curlers who law)
Team USA Curler Rich Ruohonen:
"We'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention what's going on in Minnesota...I am a lawyer, as you know, and we have a constitution... and what's happening in Minnesota is wrong. There's no shades of gray. It's clear."

It really is. The elites and institutions have crumbled, but ordinary people have taken to the streets to defend their neighbors.

The people of Minnesota and athletes like this one have orders of magnitude more courage and leadership than pretty much every major CEO and business leader. The contrast is just staggering.

I haven't worried too much about Americans remaining silent about how much they despise what's going in our country, the international reputation as loud and proud goes both ways. We'll see if the IOC cracks down on *this* as an inappropriate political statement, or if that's reserved for this:

It is really admirable the way πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Olympians have showed no hesitation in taking a public stand.

Recently at the Australian Open a couple Americans were asked about what’s going on and they did not want to answer. Maybe unfair since they weren’t playing for country… but this is too important.

I mean, yes, but let's also just remember what this entire website (Americans in the hemispheric sense and non-Americans alike) was posting about furiously less than two days ago. American soft power may be in decline but pretending it's dead is wishful thinking.
