The government want more coercive powers for the state against protests, and the main opposition party wants more coercive powers for the state against migrants.

Our political-media culture continues in a loop where the response to every perceived problem is yet more coercive powers for the state.

And why call it 'golden ticket'?

Disgraceful language. These people have lost everything. Should they also lose their spouses and children?

A reminder that last year 4,671 family reunion visas were granted.

4,671.

Does anyone think this number is a major problem for the UK economy and society?
People recognised as refugees fleeing persecution & granted the right to live in the UK to be denied the right to be joined safely by their spouse & children.

This Labour govt is a moral void, a stinking darkness, an empty hollow of cowardice & contempt. #r4today www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
Starmer to end asylum ‘golden ticket’ of resettlement and family reunion rights
People granted asylum will have to earn right to invite family in plan charities call ‘straight from populist playbook’

Long thread: There are two main "defences" I see put forward of Labour which crop up:
1) If you don't vote for Labour you'll get Reform
2) It's all the fault of right wing media painting Labour in a bad light.
The thing is that neither of these are actually a defence of what Labour is doing. 1/23

The framing here is so catastrophically disingenuous.

Linehan, for those who aren't familiar with this specific instance, publicly advocated violently assaulting trans women.

To portray this as "transgender issues" is, frankly, contemptible.

Fuck the Guardian and their "respectable" bigotry.
To reiterate;

This is how the Guardian describes a tweet that advocates assaulting trans women;

“Posts on transgender issues”

The UK media will defend you on their front pages if you encourage people to set fire to hotels full of asylum seekers, or if you encourage violence against women because some trans women might get hurt but they will call for your imprisonment if you protest genocide or the destruction of the planet

Trans people have been around your whole life. You’ve been sharing bathrooms with them your whole life. They’ve been in your communities your whole life. They’ve even been playing sport your whole life.

And you didn’t care *at all* till a few years ago when every right wing org decided you should

I love this juvenile crow, thinking he's some mastermind who's tricked me into believing he's a duck 😂

(The excited little hippy hops he does when running off were a bit of a giveaway)

Keir Starmer has appointed as his new Comms Director Tim Allan who was a board member of the hate group Sex Matters. It's no longer even pretending to adhere to its Manifesto promise to "remove indignities for trans people who deserve recognition and acceptance."

I don't even 'identify' as an Arsenal supporter. I am an Arsenal supporter.

We just don't talk like this in any other area and it needs to stop.

"Jane identifies as a hairdresser"
"John identifies as a father"
"Jane identifies as English"
"John identifies as a maths teacher".

It's moronic.

This, from the Quakers, is worth reading. It's a serene, confident, utter rebuke of the hate and fear that's peddled by Sex Matters. The last two pages are smokin'. If you're on the wrong side of the Quakers, you really need to sit down and have a good chat with yourself.
This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively “we legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happened”

I think I have 2 main concerns:
1) if you’re using chat GPT, I’d be concerned about easy accidental breaches of private information to ChatGPT
2) if you’ve trained it on your policies, you’re clearly not going to change your mind because the AI won’t so there’s no point emailing trying to do so
'I use AI as an MP – and I’m not apologising for it'

Labour MP @mike-reader.bsky.social writes about recent coverage of his decision to use AI to respond to constituents, and why Parliament is failing to keep up with the times when it comes to technology
I use AI as an MP – and I’m not apologising for it
Parliament and political parties must move more quickly to adopt AI. With the right safeguards in place, it can be a huge help for MPs.

Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

The employee asked the girl and her mother if they needed help shopping. That’s it. That’s all. The misinformation, the insinuations (because the facts are inconveniently benign) are EXACTLY what was done to lesbians in the 80s. This is the product of hate and fear, not reality.
