An important structural point not mentioned in this @financialtimes.com piece: raising income tax and cutting NICs will reduce fiscal incentives for self-employment and counteract the trend towards lower tax employment models. This should have positive long, as well as short, term fiscal effects.

I don’t think the time taken is a reason to go against nuclear, it can take a decade to connect a wind farm to the power grid (and also is very old tech).

Does remind me of when Sadiq first ran for London Mayor and the campaign against him was Islamophobic and completely endorsed repeatedly by David Cameron
Talking to Americans about Islam is my literal life’s work; I’ve been immersed in American attitudes on Islam for almost 20 years.

Mamdani was subjected to some of the worst Islamophobia I’ve ever seen.

But his election is also one of the most decisive rejections of Islamophobia I’ve ever seen.

Don't forget that Zohran Mamdani spent his entire campaign standing proudly beside the trans community. He went to trans rights rallies just to show support. He proudly waved trans rights flags without hesitation. He refused to back down in support of trans rights. That makes me happy.

I've just been called a "rape enabler" by the X AI tool Grok. This is a shocking allegation which has totally taken me aback & beyond anything I've ever encountered in normal political discourse. These AI tools are supposed to be there to serve us honestly with facts. Disturbing.

I actually think this is all fairly straightforward. The only concern is whether they go the whole hog or not. Raise taxes! But do it enough so the political hit is worth it. The cut to NI vs raise in income tax is a good way to balance it too.
