A bit twitchy.

Should note, they did mention his history with harassing the trans community. They just couldn’t go the extra millimetre to then see how in that context it was not at all a joke, it was incitement to violence. But it’s about trans people so who cares! Why would we expect journalists to do their job!

Someone with a criminal history of harassing the trans community, trans allies, and even bystanders who just happened to not be nasty to a trans person says “kick them all in the genitals” and that’s apparently fine. They wouldn’t say it was okay if someone like Tate said the same about cis women

Gridlock: why it can take 11 years to connect solar farms to the UK network
Companies are waiting up to 14 years for connections, leading some to revise net zero targets

I guess my overall point is that is is dumb to actively campaign against nuclear energy, and disingenuous to say it takes too long to build and connect as a reason when this is also true of other methods of energy e.g wind turbines. If he is ideologically against nuclear I’d rather hear that
November 8, 2025 at 11:51 PM
I still don’t see this as an argument not to do it as well; I’m sure you’d agree it’s sensible to have a diverse energy mix given your background! And I don’t really agree the pot is limited in that borrowing to invest isn’t nearly as limited - it’s more of a policy decision to limit the pot
November 8, 2025 at 11:50 PM
Could also argue investing in the NHS could reduce spending on solar by the same logic; it just isn’t an argument to say we can’t do both
November 8, 2025 at 11:00 PM
But again it isn’t an either or - it’s both. Like investing in nuclear does not prevent investing in solar. The impetus in this case is nuclear will run regardless of if the sun shines or if the wind blows

You don’t even need all that detail for a political message it is quite simply public services with Labour or austerity with tories/reform. The public do not want austerity
November 8, 2025 at 10:05 AM
Really do think the argument is are you pro austerity or not; if not, tax rises are needed and weight them towards the top 10% of earners + wealthy pensioners. Re-introduce the higher tax band too and some more on top of that for good measure! And highly tax rich people’s assets who try to leave
November 8, 2025 at 10:00 AM
It has been obvious for some time that taxes will have to go up - vague memory of Rory Stewart removing his tie realising his leadership ambitions were over because he was honest about that and the rest of the candidates lept on him
November 8, 2025 at 9:47 AM
Well yes but we can also do nuclear alongside that, there’s no need to not do it
November 8, 2025 at 9:07 AM
My general argument is, why not both nuclear and solar and wind - doesn’t have to be an either or scenario
November 8, 2025 at 8:32 AM
He’s repeated it a couple of times, I think it’s just fairly lazy and falls apart quickly and undermines his generally straight forward approach
November 8, 2025 at 8:32 AM
Like sizewell C taking 27 years is ridic and Hs2 costing as much and taking as long as it does is also ridic but this is a problem with how we do it not what we are doing
November 8, 2025 at 2:43 AM
Wind farms are stupid because they won’t come on til 2035!!!
November 8, 2025 at 2:43 AM
Overall it is just too difficult to do these things in the UK at the moment and we don’t have enough infrastructure to move the energy we do generate. More of those!
