The lines before this, where More starts by essentially saying to the anti-immigrant rioters, “Your fathers made a peaceful world that you’re tearing down, and if they acted like you none of you would have even made it to adulthood” also feels very prescient at this time.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Bezos gets to choose on a whim to destroy the Washington Post, just as Thiel can destroy Gawker, Musk can ruin Twitter, Ellison can take over TikTok, etc. Millions of others' opposition counts for near nothing.
I realize this puts me in oft mocked MMT territory, but it seems to me the value of taxing the rich is not to fund government but to compress the wealth distribution, so as to ensure those up top are not so disproportionately wealthier than others as to be able to exercise vast undemocratic power.

Read this starting from page 11. It's not just about her mental state (she clearly was having a mental breakdown). She actually walks through the timeline of when she started at the job (Jan 5) and then from when she started working on the case, the specific events and what time each day etc
If you want to read the transcript of the February 3 hearing where Julie Le had her "this job sucks" meltdown, now you can:

This is unreal. An AUSA talking like that in open court is about as close as you can come to a total breakdown. Never heard of anything like it.

Being a person who has implemented pagination: if I put this as the paginator on a site I would be prosecuted

1. 1st page gives no hint how many pages there are; suggests only 2
2. list just keeps growing w/"Next"
3. skipping to "500000" by editing URL…
4. gives same result as skipping to 99999999

The question really isn't whether or not the sun Musk builds will be sentient. No. Who cares. What I want to know is if it will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes and even seas that aren't too choppy.

Until the moment they shot him, CBP was treating Alex the same way they’ve treated countless other observers and protesters. They’re lawless and out of control. Conspiracy paranoia will not help achieve justice here or shed light on what’s happening in Minneapolis.

Low on the priority list, but one things Dems should do when they get back in the saddle is subpoena Amazon’s internal docs on this. Shareholders should be aware if (lol “if”) they knowingly blew $75 mil with no chance of recouping a tenth of that so Bezos could hand Trump a sack of cash.

Someone else has made this point but "everything you thought you knew about the law is wrong" is just... not how law works.
FFS, that didn't take long.

(To be clear, I'm not blaming @orinkerr.bsky.social, who cited and discussed the same two SCOTUS cases I did in reference to the ICE memo)

update: said friend did not in fact make the imagined same observation; said friend instead went off on how vile the artist turned out to be
that thing where that's already happened enough times with other friends that you're already envisioning it happening with this friend when you're starting to put together a playlist for a trip you haven't even scheduled yet

friend once walked into a weird old book & junk store in his minneapolis neighborhood, looked around at the knick knacks and… used stuffed animals?… and told the lady “oh I love stores like this!”
she replied in a perfect melodramatic old hollywood voice: therre ahh no stores like THISSS!
