Chevra kadisha rosha, cat lover. Good Hungarian paprika is delicious in almost any savory dish. She/her.

This is a thread about why I’m in a chevra kadisha, or more specifically, why I do taharah – the act of ritually preparing a dead person for burial. Sometimes people act as if it means I’m a particularly good or giving person, but I don’t see it that way. 1/6
My dearest wish is to know what happened to the rest of my fortune. Did I just eat it by mistake?

1. Did you know that Girl Scouts has, for a long time, accepted trans girls and nonbinary scouts?

Trans kids are under attack. Every year, I make a thread of trans and nonbinary girl scouts you can get your cookies from.

Lets get our cookies from them this year in solidarity!
2026 Trans Girl Scouts To Order Cookies From!
This year, consider ordering your Girl Scout cookies from a trans girl scout to make their day!

Scene: Husband is eating a hot dog.

Me: If you’re an obedient husband you will eat your hot dog.

Husband: Now I have to throw away my hot dog.

Me: I didn’t say, “If and only if.”

Husband continues to eat his hot dog.

What the KENNEDY Center used to be…

Remember that time Aretha Franklin performed at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors, paying tribute to Carole King, who co-wrote “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman,” and it brought a tear to Obama’s eye and everyone to their feet? And Carole King’s reaction. Wow.

1995, studying in Prague for a year. I went to Bucharest by myself, fully intending to shell out for a hotel since there wasn’t a lot of backpacker-level tourist infrastructure yet. Showed up to the hotel to check in & the desk clerk took one look at me and said “You can’t stay here.”
I would like to hear about a time someone, a stranger even, was very kind to you without any prompting, ulterior motive, or strings attached.

Okay, it looks like I need to write a new lawsuit.
USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

Short thread.
I'm going to tell my favorite story again about reflecting the certainty of beliefs back at people who don't expect it.

A friend was one of the few Jews on faculty at a North Dakota University. Every year, his colleague in religious studies would invite him to come to his religious studies class...

Happy Chinese Food Day to all who observe it, and may we continue to act in such a manner that people mistake our word for,“commandment” as, “good deeds.” #Jewsky

Reproductive freedom is a Jewish value — and what better way to celebrate it than Repro Shabbat?

Here's how it works: On February 13-14, when we read Parshat Mishpatim, Jewish communities across the country will celebrate Shabbat while centering reproductive freedom.

I’m just going to mention there have recently been locally transmitted cases of dengue (bone break fever) in California.
(🎁 Link)

Mosquitoes are the deadliest animal on Earth, because of their ability to spread diseases.

The most widespread of these is Dengue.

14 million contracted it last year but the real number is much higher.

There is a cure, but companies have walked away for more profitable ventures.

The biggest mosquito-borne disease in the world has a cure. There’s just one problem.
No one wants to make it.

A beautuful thread about Rob Reiner.
I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

According to a Los Angeles Fire Department official, the deceased were a man and a woman, ages 78 and 68. The same ages as Reiner and his wife.

Part of the Chanukah tradition is to place the light menorah either outside or in a window where outsiders can see it. This is supposed to advertise the miracle of Chanukah. These days, it is also a way of saying, “This is a Jewish home.”

Every year I think about how it is also an act of bravery.

On Sunday mornings I greet kids coming to religious school. When I started, it was just a friendly thing to do. Years ago I was trained to scan the parking lot and approaching people for threats. I always do so now, although some days it seems unnecessary. On some days, I see the need more clearly.

Why does the news keep saying, “Jewish celebration” without saying it was a Chanukkah event? Am I the only one who finds this to be odd? #Jewsky

Oliva Nuzzi and her ex confirmed that.
