If we use the "people celebrating in the streets" standard and "some benefit to him not being in power", well...
BASH: There's no question that Maduro was a destabilizing force in the region. People are celebrating in the streets all over. Is it fair to say there's some benefit in him not being in power?

Which is honestly kind of surprising, considering how corrupt our cops are
When the LAPD arrests a dude at a gas station they don’t take over the gas station and use it to gas up all the cop cars tho
STEPHANOPOULOS: Why wasn't congressional authorization necessary?

RUBIO: It wasn't necessary because this was not an invasion. We didn't occupy a country. This was an arrest operation.

According to reporting, at least 40 people were killed in the kidnapping of Maduro.
I think this should get more attention.

NRA sits out 2028 election over GOP enforcing Venezuelan law. Or whatever TF this charge is.
after that, speaking sincerely, im extremely interested to see how you convict a venezuelan president for possessing venezuelan machine guns in venezuela

I love how the NYT managed to do a Sunday edition of the Daily with a detailed explanation of the intelligence and military operation to capture Maduro, and not a single mention of the Constitution, or even Congress, which still hasn’t been briefed.
barack obama is giving a speech in front of a microphone in front of american flags .
Alt: barack obama is giving a speech in front of a microphone in front of american flags making a “what?” gesture. I think it’s the announcement of the bin Laden raid, which I’d argue was also unconstitutional and a war crime, but he at least had the support of Congress. .

I also think the discussion would be more fruitful if they acknowledged that distinction, because that would get at the heart of it: there's a lot of things for which "that was bad, dumb, probably illegal, and if you want to stop it elect better leaders" is in fact (unfortunately) the right answer

I just remembered watching the start of the first Gulf War on CNN when I was a kid.

Their correspondent Bernie Shaw was in Tel Aviv, which was taking bombing, including one right by his hotel. He ducked under the desk, and my dad made a joke about him shitting his pants.

Shaw had video going, CNN

Well, it’s Christmas Day, so it must be time to talk about Jesus – specifically, about how on this day 1,225 years ago, Charlemagne, who was in Rome to be crowned Carolingian Emperor, presented Pope Leo III with the very holiest of relics: the Foreskin of Our Lord 🧵
December 25, 2025 at 10:53 AM
Yes, they used the foreskin mandoline
Mind you, this is all based on the idea that there was just one holy foreskin, when in fact there may have been anything up to 18 of them. In an effort not to entertain the idea that relics might be fraudulent, some ~ahem~ creative thinking was required
