Along with the dunks, I have decided to make a summer reading project out of reading the subject of my profile pic - "Why Was Lincoln Murdered?" by Otto Eisenschiml, first published in 1937.

It is a conspiratorial tale about how Edwin M. Stanton was actually behind the assassination.

Trump: "The whole issue of the women. Comfort women. Very specifically. We talked and that was a very big problem for Korea, not for Japan. Japan was, wanted to go, they want to get on. But Korea was very stuck on that."

Don’t give Trump any ideas of American colonies in Africa…
Trump to the President of Liberia: "Such good English. Where did you learn to speak so beautifully?"

English is the official language of Liberia...

somehow i don’t think vance is imagining the descendants of veterans of the US Colored Troops when he is speaking about people whose ancestors fought in the civil war
JD Vance is suggesting that neo-Nazis and the descendents of confederate soldiers have more claim to being part of this nation because they're white than immigrants who believe in the Declaration of Independence.

This kind of blood and soil nationalism is indistinguishable from classic fascism.

Trump: "The country had a great depression. And then after the depression, long after it started, they brought back tariffs to see if they could save it. But it took them really 25 years to get out of the great depression. A lot of people don't understand that."

When I was at Cato, probably half of every intern class was convinced the only reason anyone wasn't a libertarian was because they hadn't read Rothbard. (And then maybe 10% felt the same way about Rand.)
my favourite type of person is the guy (you find them on both the right, center, and left) convinced that if only you read the right Theory(TM) you would subscribe to their ideology without question

Stalin is primarily remembered as an author, of course.
I’m just laughing at your Cold War boomer insult, thinking it’s somehow incisive or cutting. Yes, tankie here! Marxist-Leninist. Stalin’s writing on the national question is essential for any library. Lenin, Stalin, Castro, Ho, Sankara, Mao, Habash, etc. Yes to all of these.

You know you're on the side of the right when you're on the same side as Idi Amin, right? That's how it works?
A thing that makes that Times story especially odious is that Zohran Mamdani's father was LITERALLY expelled from Uganda during Idi Amin's fascist effort to scapegoat Asian Ugandans as not really African www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
