Reminder to (what's left of) the US government that if a president attempts an insurrection, it's possible to remove them from office, sentence them, and imprison them. This is not only possible, but can even be necessary to maintain a democracy.
Yoon Suk-yeol has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

My notebook site now features #Shavian subtitles as a sort of simpler, prettier version of the IPA.

“Why don’t younger people read newspapers?”
I studied over 400 hate-ridden headlines from The Telegraph about the Trans+ community and what emerged was a new artwork currently exhibiting in Brixton.

This is ‘The Telegraph’s Phantasm, 2026’

CW: lots of nastiness

You can also see this in older autism research where anytime they say they're researching "the impact of autism" they interview only the autistic person's family members & make no attempt to communicate with the autistic person.
When politicians discuss autism, pay attention to who they say they’re helping. You’ll find it’s almost always “families” or “parents of kids with autism,” rather than #autistic people ourselves. Their primary concern is the burden we supposedly impose on others. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

In between playing proper games at the first international chess tournament, the London 1851 chess tournament, Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky played a friendly game that has since become famous, known as the Immortal Game. It's beloved for Anderssen's Queen sacrifice.

It also won't even stop at trans kids. Kids with autism, kids with ADHD, any kids that don't fit to the model of obedient, passive children who conform to desired stereotypes, the British (and American) elite want to die. I mean, they ideally want us "fixed" by magical sweatshops, but dead works too
If you think Streeting is in trouble for getting trans kids killed, think again. They won't say it in so many words, but trans death is a desirable outcome for the people who want to "reduce" the "numbers" of trans people. And those people have had considerable success with ideological capture.

I have incarcerated comrades & loved ones who are enduring the daily torture of US prisons. They also continue to make art. They often don't have the proper supplies and yet they make it knowing that it will never make it out to anyone else. But they continue to make art nonetheless. Keep making art

So what I'm getting from the new documentary so far is that Judit Polgár's father forced her to be a prodigy by making her work extremely hard throughout her childhood, somewhere between Mozart's encouraging father and Michael Jackson's abusive father.

"ICE guys are pretty miserable. I don’t think morale is particularly high for them. They’re freezing, they’re getting shouted at. They can’t go anywhere without being tailed by 5 cars. They get out and immediately there's a crowd of 100 people shouting at them, blowing whistles as loud as they can."

On a related note, I've been enjoying Ludwig, which is a pretty decent police procedural by British standards... but as with many such shows, I kinda wish they'd just say out loud that the protagonist is autistic already. He's a shut-in who loves puzzles and routine and hates metaphors. Just say it!

So what I’m hearing here is that neurotypical people have to apply a lot of effort to NOT infer subtext.

This explains a lot of our talking at crossed purposes.
Neurotypical people: how intuitive is indirect speech for you?

Can you just automatically infer the subtext when someone talks to you, and automatically add it when you yourself talk?

Fascinating research on how often and for what reasons female economists are interrupted while presenting their work. Obviously this has applications outside economics. Nice to see actual hard data backing this up, instead of being gaslit about how it's all in our minds.
Here’s what they found:

Women are interrupted more often than men—by about 10–20% in economics seminars.

Those interruptions are more likely to:
- Cut women off mid-sentence
- Come from men
- Be adversarial rather than clarifying in nature
