Demographically, just the worst.
I couldn't schedule labwork / blood draws this morning and it took some time to realize this was why.
The AWS outage made it impossible to pay for parking outside the courthouse this morning.

Amazon should not have that kind of influence.

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

I have a modicum of respect for "prompt engineering" as a tool use skill. Very little for LLMs as tools to be clear but learning how to get accurate answers to technical problems out of Google wasn't dissimilar to other research skills. You can't go in with nothing and expect useful results
You don't go to school/college/university to be told stuff. You go to be taught the state of the field, how to tell good info from bad, how to evaluate input, etc etc etc. That is thinking. Without education there is just input with no thought. That is precisely how we got here. And here sucks.

real lesson in bag fumbling! bluesky only hit any kind of mainstream success because they happened to benefit from musk's shitty behavior and there was already an early adopter base of ex-twitter people on here encouraging their friends to come over. most startups never get that lucky!

This is what got me. I do a pretty good job of curating away most of the day to day drama and keeping a good mix of content. I still get plenty of doom and politics but usually only receive drama second or thirdhand. The current set of whackamole bans and discourse is close to first order.
Why would you remove it and Streisand Effect yourself like this? Baffling decisionmaking here.

/20 In closing, this is the result that the Right, the Federalist Society, the Heritage Foundation, and their crew have successfully fought for: a system where the federal government can deliberately violate your rights and there is no effective remedy - meaning you don’t really have the right.

There's a really interesting field of study I'd like to read more about that concerns the human tendency to anthropomorphize, whether it's pets or things or game NPCs or chatbots. Everyone's got a line below which 'that is clearly not a sentient agent.'

It really needs to be understood that there's medical and scientific consensus on this, as well as trans people's own knowledge and experience on the subject, which is just as if not more important, as we are the sole stakeholders in our own healthcare.

This is lost in the conversation. Californians had a lot to be proud of in a nonpartisan commission giving genuine representation. Flawed sure but it really felt like an aspirational model and nothing about a nationally aimed grab feels representative of where we want to be headed.
Yeah, there is a reason why we as a state voted for an independent redraw commission to be part of state charter almost 20 years ago to avoid power grabs like this. Disappointed so many people are falling for this without looking at the proposed map.
