Rates of harassment are up, hate crimes are up, general incivility seems to be the norm these days. There's a general sense that "Things suck but we're powerless to do anything about it."

Not true, babes! Let me teach you community care!

Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

Men are not trash. Perpetuating that narrative helps normalize rape culture by making it seem like it's just inherent to their nature. It's not.

Men are human beings. The social system of patriarchal masculinity is what's trash, and it hurts them too. We can change that.

First, the UCP said there was an “election integrity crisis," which led to a voter ID law.

Then a “national unity crisis” → a sovereignty referendum.

Now a “crisis of confidence” in the courts → defunding judges.

There is no evidence of these crises.

The UCP is trying to manufacture them.

“The grid will collapse from EV electricity demand!!”

When it’s data centers:
“We need to build nuclear plants and gas fired plants to meet demand!”

A great episode on a subject not only important in the States! We have our own cropmof reactionary centrists over here.
Today on Volts: I'm joined by the great @michaelhobbes.bsky.social to discuss "reactionary centrism," an intellectual tendency that's come to dominate US public life. You know the type: would never view themselves as conservative, yet finds voluntary pronoun use vastly more aggravating than fascism.
All about "reactionary centrism"
Michael Hobbes joins me to diagnose the pundit class's obsession with scolding the left while the right burns down the house.

tl;dr I think colonizers, especially those attracted to positions of power & violence like certain agents, are acting from deep generational trauma from patriarchy and disconnection from nature & relationality that goes back centuries, and I don't think we'll stop the cycle until we reckon with that

I checked. This appears to be a breach of the provincial Elections Act. Municipalities are not allowed to provide a venue for the signing.

Modry says the goal is over a million signatures, to show that this isn't a fringe group. The goal is to show that "this is the majority of people in Alberta who understand what has happened to them, and they want a better future for themselves, their kids, and to plan for their retirement."

• The Parti Quebecois is expected (by the Alberta separatists) to endorse them
• the U.S. would help an indy Alberta set up its military (which would spend 3% of GDP on defence)
• Property taxes would go away
• The explicit goal (at least of one speaker) is for the rest of Canada to break up, too
